george: I would tend to agree, however in this case the cost was the determining factor. When cut this way, less waste is created and the price of the surround is significantly lower (especially on a very expensive and rare stone as this one). So to put it in other way, for the owner of this home, it was getting this stone as you see here, or not getting it at all.

very unhappy with the cross grain match. My goodness, my 16 yr old son, who i have trained could do a much, much better job. Im sorry guys, but we are all being honest here. Ask your self, and be honest. I wouldnt allow it in my home. Beautiful stone.
