Jennifer: Madura Gold, or something from the "Bordeaux" family. |

My cabinets are a maple auburn glaze. My appliances are white. I want my home to look warm. What would be the best granite color for me? |

Richard: It will look good, just make sure it does not blend in too much. |

Thank you for the response! I have chosen the Madura Gold for the countertops. The slab I have chosen is absolutely gorgeous, and well worth the difference in price --- lots of movement and color variation, and it even has a subtle grey-green vein in places that I am going to pick up with a complementary light sage green wall. I took a sample home, and am thrilled with the way it complements everything. I'm also doing my fireplace hearth, which can be seen from one end of the kitchen, in the Madura. I'm using the Verde Laura in the powder room, so am ending up with both of the granites I really liked. Thanks again for your advice! |

Phyllis: From the resale standpoint, doing a low contrast setting makes more sense. A color such as Madura Gold will open up a lot of design possibilities down the road, should the next owner want to reface cabinets or change wall colors. Also, more and more people become aware of Ubatuba and Butterfly as the "cheap" granite. You'll have a much easier time recovering the cost with a more upscale choice like Madura. Now, do I think it would blend in? Sorry but I have no answer to that one. What you should do is grab a sample of the stone and bring it home. That's the only way to be sure. |

I have natural maple cabinets that have turned darker and taken on gold tones with age (about 5 years) and am thinking of doing either oak floors that are a pretty good match color-wise with the cabinets or a lighter ceramic tile for more contrast. I like the madura gold for the countertops but wonder if it is too similar in color to the cabinets and wood floor, or if the pattern flow and the multiple colors in the granite gives enough contrast. I like the similar tones, but don't want it to end up too boring. If I did a big contrast instead, I like Verde Laura, Verde Butterfly, and UbaTuba but want the kitchen to appeal to more people for down-the-road resale. Any advice would be appreciated! |

Kristi: There are different Maduras and I would look for one that creates most contrast with the cabinets. The rest is secondary. Time to collect some samples. |

I have medium maple cabinets with a wood floor of similar color. I am painting the walls a Restrained gold. The backsplash is beige tile. Will the Madura Gold look good in this kitchen? I am in love with this granite, but think it may not be enough contrast. |

Mary: From your description it seems that your kitchen would look good with Madura Gold. It probably wouldn't jump right at you, but there should be enough contrast, at least with the cabinets, to make it stand its own in the kitchen. And to me, a lake house would benefit more from a toned down color scheme like you described, rather than something flashy. |
