Susie: I'd go darker for more contrast. Try Tropical Brown.

I have honey-colored oak cabinets - looking for granite counterops - saw Giallo Ornamental - what do you think - any suggestion?

Maurice: I'd go with a tumbled travertine tile, it will tie-in nicely.

My wife is having a hard time picking out a backsplash for our kitchen. We have our kitchen painted red, tropic brown countertop, maple cabinets with honey stain with a mocha glaze on the trim, and beige floor tile in a pinwheel floor design. What kind of backsplash would you recommend?

george: I actually referred to it as Tan Brown by mistake (they're both similar), but the picture above is Amazon Star as you said :-) The floor tile should be lighter than he granite.

Name: george

Date: 2010-01-19 17:12:09

I really like the Amazon Star you reccomended. Does the design of the laminate tile matter? It is light/medium in color, but has some "wavy" pattern to it.

George: Tan Brown picture above is a good choice, going in a different direction could be Butterfly Antique, or Tropical Brown.

I have honey oak cabinets and laminate tile flooring. The flooring is a medium brown/beige with some veining in it. What type of granite would you advise?

Ellen: Maybe Green Rose? I'm really not having anything come to mind to have the reds like Amazon Star but also greens.

I really like Amazon Star's combination of brown & grey, but it may have too much blue. Is there anything close, but with more green than blue?

Ralph: A slight warning... Full Backsplash in a small kitchen can be really overpowering and heavy! If you indeed want a full backsplash, stick to very light colors.

Lisa: For a light stone, try Kashmir White. For something medium, maybe tobacco.

I have a calley kitchen, not too big, white cabinets and terra cotta floor. What color countertops would you suggest? Don't want to go really really dark

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2009-05-07 17:28:04

Ann: Light or dark is often dictated by the available light. If the layout of your kitchen is open, spacious and well lit, go for the dark stones. Otherwise, lighter colors tend to look more inviting and warm. Try Crema Bordeaux as the darker color and Juparana Golden Vyara for something lighter. Let me know how you like these.

I have light cream shiny porcelain floor and orangey stained maple cabinets and would like your opinion on whether to go dark or light on my granite countertop and what color choices are best? I don't like greens or blues though. Thanks!

Diana: Well, since you left the comment under a photo of Amazon star, I'll assume you like this color. And I do as well. It seems to fit your color scheme quite well. What you can't see in this photo is the fact that there is some green in this stone. Seems like a good match.

I have a mexican saltillo floor (with random 2x2" green tile). Cabinets are a natual birch. What would you recommend for countertops, back splash and wall color? My house is farmhouse type with mexican decor.

kathy : I'd go with Amazon Star. It's got some blue in it as well. I'm afraid Blue Pearl would be way too much of a contrasting color.

stacie: Yellowish is a broad term. I would try to pick up the lightest color found in the granite itself and see how well that goes.

Date: 2009-01-19 15:40:41

Amy: That question would be better directed to a company that sells laminates, as we currently do not carry any.

Stacie: You could say so. Although it's much more vibrant. The colors in this stone are pinkish tan, blue, black, and a hint of green.

I have white tile floors, off-white paint on walls and oak cabinets. Thinking about Baltic Brown granite or Santa Cecila any thoughts?

Date: 2008-12-23 08:40:17

Scotty p: I think just the difference in cabinets is enough to set the island apart from the rest of the kitchen. There's no need to give it a separate color. What I would suggest is something along the lines of Golden Rock Light.

Rose: Quite contrasty. What are the appliances?

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-11-19 14:16:14

cami: I think black would create too much contrast. Also it is pretty hard to keep clean as it shows smudges, dust, crumbs, etc.. Amazon star would tie into the wood quite nicely while providing plenty of contrast.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-11-19 09:36:15

Jandy: Well the darker you go with the granite, the more "punch" you'll get. Peacock is fine although it will limit you to greens as far as the decor goes.

Date: 2008-10-24 20:34:55

I have Oak Cabinets (almost the honey color) and white marble floors. I have been thinking about Amazon Star, Baltic Brown or something darker (black). But I am afraid that the black might stand out too much. Any suggestions?? What black would look better with the oak cabinets.

Name: Jandy

Date: 2008-10-10 12:52:00

One more question please since I really have to decide soon. I said I didn't want "black" but I now think dark granite looks really good with the cabs. Verde Peacock or other suggestions? Thanks so much.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-10-08 12:52:28

Jandy: I would stay with the medium toned colors. Amazon star is a good one. Also try Baltic Brown if you want to pay less ;)

Maple (yellow-ish fawn slab Aristokraft) cabs, red oak floors (can be stained), SS appliances. Don't want black or something that reads black. How's Amazon Star? Any other affordable suggestions? Can I go light and still look good?

Loretta: Well, amazon star is nice. Also try Tobacco.

Date: 2008-07-31 18:09:44

We have a good sized kitchen, custom stained maple cabinets in reddish/brown tone, light tile floors, stainless steel applicances (cooktop in island in center of kitchen), trying to decide on counter colors and leaning toward Baltic Brown, Giallo Vincenza, or Tropic Brown. What do you think? Any others we should consider.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-04-21 14:10:32

sugarbear: If the cabinets are medium in tone, I would first try to decide wether going lighter or darker than the cabinets will work better. Then try to find a stone that matches the general color scheme of the room.

I have cherry cabinets/autumn blush, white appliances and light laminate flooring, the walls are copper hide in color. What color of countertop would work well with my combination?

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-04-05 10:30:26

Jen: Uba tuba would look quite nice with the cabinets. Now if the floor has reddish tones in it, that might clash with the granite a bit. If it's just natural cherry, you will be ok.

Date: 2008-04-02 13:58:29

I have cherry hardwood floor and Uba Tuba counters in my soon to be new Kitchen, but can't decide on the cabinet color. They are all Birch but with light, medium and darker tones. Can't decide which color will look good with the counter and the floor.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Tamara: You do have quite a few colors in there so I would lean towards a more subtle color.

Date: 2007-12-19 07:14:44

I have cedar beams, medium maple floors, darker cabinets cherry/brown. Stainless appliances. Rust/red walls contemporary, black backsplash. When my cabinet color is next to it it really looked great.I'm wondering if you think the counter is going to be too loud. something more subtle? Nepson Gold?

Beth: Try Giallo Vincenza. Tumbled marble is a good match.

Do you have any names of granite that you would recommend over Tropic Brown? Also, I'm getting filidelphia tumbled marble installed as the back splash with the tropic brown. What do you think about that as a match with the Tropic Brown?

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2007-11-07 08:56:02

Beth: Tropic Brown is a fairly universal color. It will go with your cabinetry, but maybe you can expand your search a bit?

I have light oak cabinets, and travertine floors in a big kitchen. I like the looks. Any thoughts?

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2007-07-11 09:57:37

Chris: You don't want to make colors to close to each other because it will make all the elements: countertops, floors, and walls blend in too much. Uba Tuba might be a good way of breakin the color scheme but may look a little too dark unless your kitchen is very large and bright. you may also lookk for something ligher and contrasty to the floor and backsplash in warmer tones.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2007-07-10 19:13:06

Pat: Giallo Ornamental wouldn't be too bad. It depends how light you want to go. New Venitan is a little darker and it is definately warmer so you may try that combination.

Name: Chris

Date: 2007-06-27 12:29:45

I have tofee colored birch cabinets, red oak wood floors and terra cotta colored backsplash. I like this stone but think a darker colr with brown flecks would be better. Uba Tuba? Suggestions?

Name: Pat

Date: 2007-06-24 21:27:52

We have maple/cognac cabs, blended terra cotta tile floor & blk apps. Since Amazon Star or Tropic Brown don't seem viable, would the color combo & tone of Giallo Ornamental work best vs. Verde Laura or New Venetian Gold work best.
