I am remodeling my kitchen with painted eggshell cabinets (with a subtle brown brush stroke) around the perimter and a walnut stained cherry island. I am also installing a slightly distressed medium stain wood plank floor and glazed tiles in backsplash, similar to subway tile. I can't decide what type of granite to use. I am trying to avoid a tuscan look since that is overdone in my area. What granite would you suggest for either a classic vintage or french look? Oh, I also have a red brick hearth area that surrounds an indoor grill and double wall oven. Thank you! |

We have a 8' 5" by 14' 6" galley kitchen with doors at each end of the room and two windows on the sink side. We have chosen stainless and black appliances, along with Coffee Glaze Maple cabinets. We have Madura Gold Red granite with a 6" backsplash. What color would you recommend for the walls? |

Helen: Ubatuba will look sleek and modern while providing excellent contrast. Another suggestion would be Butterfly Jade. I'm leaning towards subway tile for backsplash. |

We are converting our small, enclosed kitchen into an open kitchen area with one wall replaced with a bar opening into the dining room. All the walls in the adjacent rooms are a sage green. We will have white cabinets, stainless appliances, brushed nickel hardware, and medium-to-dark wood floors. I would describe our style as transitional. We are struggling with both the granite color and the backsplash. We want our kitchen to feel modern and open without losing the warmth of the rest of the house. Originally leaning towards Ubatuba counters and either white subway tile or a sand-colored tile. Thoughts on this? Other recommendations? Thank you so much! |

I have natural oak cabinets and floors and white appliances and satin nickel hardware. I am considering going with Santa Cecilia granite. Also, what backsplash would you choose? Do you have a better suggestion on granite color? Is this a good choice? I have a considerable amount of counter space in my kitchen. Thanks!! |

Donna: You should definitely check out our Madura Gold in person as it generally does not have splotches. Kashmir Gold would indeed also be very suitable, it would tie everything in nicely. Golden Arctic is an option that has some more white. |

Doing a kitchen reno. Cabinets light honey oak with rubbed bronze hardware. White appliances. Golden yellow walls and existing, aged brown-red brick floor. Wanted granite with at least fleck of white to tie in white appliances, as well as golden shades and brown red fleck. Thought was in love with Madura gold, but saw on display at home box store and had a peachy splotches that didn't expect. Would Kashmir meet my needs? Any other colors I should look at? |

lourdes: I think Walnut would be my choice. It should be a bit darker than the alder and would provide more contrast to the countertop. As for the walls, it really depends on the particular stain on the wood. Any hint of red will tie in with the walls. |

I am picking out colors for our new kitchen. I have picked out a tile that simulates terracota tiles. For countertops, I have picked the santa cecilia. We have stainless steel appliances. For kitchen cabinets, I am undecided towards knotty alder in natural stain finish or chestnut finish. Will chestnut stain or natural finish go better with terracota colored tiles and snata cecilia countert?ops |

Gale: The stone on the picture is definetly not Cecilia, I would go rather for kashmir or madura gold. Also it all depends what cabinets you are using, if they're close to the color of the stone than it's washed out, since there is no contrast. |
|
Name: Gale | Date: 2009-04-15 17:57:00 |
So, I take it from your comment things would look too "washed out" with all the gold? I actually talked to the guy and the color I think is Cecilia..it has a little gold, browns, burgandy, cream, black |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-04-06 10:42:51 |
Barb: If I imagined the colors right, the cherry stain will make the cabinets somewhat dark which in turn will contrast with Santa Cecilia. Go with a lighter flooring and backsplash. This will make the cabinets and the countertop "pop" more. |
|

We are leaning toward maple cabinets stained a medium cherry with Santa Cecilia for the countertops. The appliances are stainless steel. This is a once in our life-time remodel. Will it pop? Suggestions on wall paint, flooring and backslash? Thanks! |

Gale: By far Veneziano, it will complement your setup much better. Since it tends to be more brownish than Fiorito, which on the other hand tends to be more golden. Fiorito would blend too much with the oak. |
|
Name: Gale | Date: 2009-03-30 14:07:26 |
Thanks....I looked also at Giallo veneziano (sp)? between Fiorito and veneziano what do you think looks best? Again, my kitchen walls are dark red, brushed stainless appliances with black and medium oak cabinets and oak flooring. It seems the veneziano is more grainy and the fiorito more "splochy" if that is a word :). I see the veneziano has some (dark brown/burgandy specks in it) so wondering what would look better with my walls/cabinets. Thanks! |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-03-25 10:27:44 |
Gale: I do think that the Giallo is a better option. Uba Tuba tends to become black when lacking proper lighting. |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-03-25 10:25:45 |
Joan: There is none. What you choose is ultimately your decision. There are no rules stating the floor should be darker than the countertops. For most, it looks more natural because the darker floor becomes a color foundation for the rest of the kitchen. It "grounds" the design so to speak. But many choose to reverse this. By choosing a darker stone and lighter floor, you bring extra attention to the countertop. Since you seem to be already decided on a light countertop – Shivakashi, I would probably contrast it with a medium/dark floor. |

Hi! I have med oak cabinets med to dark oak floors and red walls. My kitchen is darker in summer (although I have recessed lights) and lighter in the winter (due to foilage). I was going to go with Ubatuba but when I Saw samples I also looked at Giallo Fioritto (sp?) DO you think the lighter color is best? |

We are redoing our countertops and floor. One person told us the countertops should be light and the floor dark. I had never heard of this. Our cabinets are medium golden oak and the countertop we've picked is Shivakashi Pink...flooring to be decided. What is the consensus? |

Karen: Yes, i'd go with a darker, earthy toned granite and lighter backsplash and floor. Depending on how much light and room you're working with, I would introduce a wavy pattern on the stone. Have a look at Divia Gold, Madura Gold, Monet.. |
|

Bon: This stone is called Kashmir Gold. It will compliment dark cherry cabinets quite well. Once you order it should be 3 days to installation. |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2008-11-21 15:40:03 |
Bon: Generally a red cabinet will benefit from a warm light color such as gold. This brings out the best from both elements. For the backsplash you can keep it neutral, further enhancing the cabinets and countertops. I imagine a pale tumbled marble or travertine tile should work well there. The process is very fast. Once you order it should be about 3 days. |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2008-11-21 14:40:25 |
gloria: I would probably use a nice rich gold for the perimeter countertops (something like the picture above) and for the island and possibly bar I'd go with a rich dark brown such as Platinum Bahia. |
|

skas: Since the cabinets are light and the countertops are a medium/light color, I would suggest keeping that same level of brightness for the backsplash. Too dark of a backsplash will "weigh" down on the countertops and cabinets. How about some light tumbled marble or travertine tile? |
|

I'm scared my gold countertop will clash with my multicolor mosaic backsplash, but I really don't want to give either up, along with dark cabinets and cream floor. Back splash has roses, glurs, green, teal, some silver, and a tinge of bronze. What should I do? |

I have dard cabinets, light floor and need a countertop with a gold background with colors like rose,teal,---any suggestions? |

Sherpri : A very light one, whatever color you decide on. Seems like the room is dark as is. There's no need to make it darker. I'd go with a light Kashmir Gold. |

I have a small kitchen with cherry wood cabinets and black appliances. What color do you suggest for the granite counter and laminate floors. |

For our kitchen, we are installing Brazilian Cherry floors (dark, reddish brown tone), stainless appliances and white, shaker cabinets. We are considering Butterfly Blue granite for the countertops. Any thoughts? You always seem to have such solid advice! |

Patrick: A light gold such as Golden Valley. |
|

Lisa: Quite possibly. Giallo is a huge family of colors so I'm sure you will be able to find either a much lighter or darker one than your cabinets. |

What granite would look nice with autumn stained cherry cabinets and black appliances. I would like my floor and counters to be the same tone. |
|

I ordered cherry cabinets with an autumn stain. I have not yet choosen my floor or granite. I would like to choose Duraceramic golden clay for a floor but am not sure on a granite. Absolute black is absolutely out of the question. Would something like Giallo Vincenza have enough contrast? |

Rich: I think taht Kashmir Gold will be perfect match. There are many different shades of Kashmir Gold. You will have to select one that has enough contrast to the rest of the desing elements. |

Hi, my new house has oak cabinets with tan tile floors and gold/yellow walls. The appliances are stainless steel and it is small. I'd like to go with a Tuscan feel do you think cashmir gold would be a good fit? |

Mary Lou: You have to look for premium granite only. No commercial quality. What counts is integrity of the structure, no cracks, no fissures, vaining proportionally distributed on the slab, quality of the surface polish. I invite you to visit our stone yards. We care only preselected premium quality slabs. |

Carol: If the kitchen is open and airy you can safely go with darker granite. Tray Verde Sequoia if you like shades of green. It has green tones throughout and very subtle yellowish background. |

I am remodeling my 1970 San Francisco contemporary home. The house will be sold. The kitchen has white cabinets with nickel handles, bright white Maytag appliances and white ceramic floor tiles. The walls are painted a warm gold with taupe & umber undertones. Any suggestions on granite countertops that will appeal to potential buyers? |

We are redoing our kitchen/den. It is like one big room. I picked out maple cabinets which are a cream color with a toasted almond glaze. We are going with oak hardwood floors. The colors that I tend to like for the rooms are hues of green, yellow and reds. I am very confused about countertops. What color granite should I go with???? |

Patti:
Is the kitchen contemporary? If yes, go with something darker and solid or lightly specled pattern. Uba tuba is a good and inexpensive option. |

kris chernik:
I would go with yellow with brown streaks. You don't want to go to dark if the kitchen is small becasue that will make it visually smaller even more. Yellow is a warm color like the rest of colors in your pallete. It seems to be a good choice. |

We have maple cherry cabinets in our kitchen and travertine beige tiles. We do not know if a dark green or yellow with brown streaks would be best? We like the darker but our kitchen is not that large |

My question: We are building a new house. Cherry cabinets and we were going to go with a natural oak floor with gloss (it's pretty blonde). What granite countertop color would you suggest? Should we go with a different floor? |

Two excellent choices. Also try Chocolate Brown. I think it will compliment the coffee glaze. |

My perimeter cabinets are antique white with a coffee glaze accent. My island is cherry, in a chestnut stain. My floor is natural stone with a mixture of beige tones. I thought a dark granite in the brown tones would be best. I was thinking Giallo Vicenza or Florentino - your thoughts? |

Two very similar stones. Ornamental is lighter and more whitish. |

I have a small ski condo with light natural oak cabinets, bronze hardware with white appliances. What color granite would you recommend? The tile in the kitchen is a neutral rough beige tile and carpet is shades of caramel and tan. |

My cabinets are golden oak (from the late 80's) and the floor is beige tile. What would you suggest to bring my kitchen into 2007? |
|
Name: Kathy | Date: 2007-04-05 14:17:03 |
I agree with your opinion on black granite. I've since been recommended to use Giallo ornamental. It does go well with the antique white cabinets. Since my island and dining set are chestnut stained, maybe this granite won't be too light. Your thoughts? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2007-03-13 15:57:44 |
Kathy, while you are heading in the right direction, I really doubt black is something that you want. Keep in mind the maintenance of black countertops is tedious, and dark colors will make your kitchen look smaller. A medium-dark color will complete your scheme. |

My perimeter cabinets are antique white/coffee glaze; island is chestnut-stained maple My floor is tile is a light terracotta shade. I think I need to go dark with the granite(black or brown). Your thoughts? |

i like the cashmir gold, but in a previous conv. you stated that it will blend with honey oak cabinets. I need something neutral. Want something that will stand out with Honey Oak, but still neutral. |

It really is your personal preference but I would probably try to come close to the color of the floor to creat a cool two color effect in the kitchen. |

Hi, My new countertops will be dark cherry (stainless steel and black appliances). What color Granite counter tops should I go with that is extra shiny with tiny and fine specks of color unlike , let's say Baltic Brown or antique brown (they have large brown specks and spots). Thanks. |

Steph, yes, Cecilia is ok. It's pretty light but not flat. |

Stacey, I would try something darker like Giallo Veneziano or Giallo Vincenza. It will make for stronger contrast. |

I have been advised to choose Santa Cecilia for my countertops. I have oak cabinets w/ white appliances. My keeping room (in the same room) has beige chairs w/ black accents and a few accessories w/ red and turquoise to add color. My walls are red ocre. I am so confused......Also, what do you think about my island having granite and leaving my other countertops white? Do you recommend any other countertop color? |

Our new kitchen will have antique white glazed perimeter cabinets, a black mantel hood, and a toffee-colored stained island. Our top choice for granite countertops is Santa Cecilia. How do you think this will look with our cabinets? Is Santa Cecilia a good choice for three kids and a dog? Thank you! |
