June: You're on the right track. Another suggestion would be Colonial Cream, and on the lower end New Venetian Gold. |

Our kitchen remodel will have California Chocolate (medium-brown, not too dark). We have 20" off-white tile (travertine look) and are looking for a lighter granite that has some striations and movement but not too much. Walls are Carrington Beige, sort of a light khaki color. Older home with 8-ft ceilings so I want to avoid a closed-in feeling and think the granite will be key. Liked Golden Beach on the higher end and a nice lot of Santa Cecelia on the lower end. What do you think? (We have about 120 sq ft of counter space incl. a peninsula and are thinking of adding a small dining island w/ wine fridge too.) Any other granites you'd recommend trying? Thank you! |

I was looking at the one you recommended New Venetian Gold, and I really like it; however, my dining set has two leather black chairs and a bench and two white microfiber chairs. what granite would you recommend out of the three? santa cecilia? or a gold? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2010-02-19 08:31:34 |
Cynthia: No, definitely go lighter. Santa Cecilia is an excellent choice, also New Venetian Gold. These choices have some garnet flecks that compliment the cherry nicely. |

I have dark cabinets, get moderate amount of light into the kitchen, I have beige floor in kitchen, and I have tan carpet in living room which is next to kitchen. Also my appliances are black and stainless steel. What color of granite for countertops do you recommend? |
|

Rick: Take a look at Giallo Ornamental. Subway or glass tile for a contemporary look with the backsplash. |

well, I decided to go with Typhoon Bordeaux am waiting for another group of slabs to come and hopefully it will have a little less golf/rust color, I feel the Bordeaux will give me a warmer look, meanwhile I need to pick out my tile. Any suggestions? I would like to go as dark as i can there will be a lot of traffic in that area. I am also planning to do a backlash probably tumbled marble thoughts? Thank you "Big Time"!!! |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-11-30 16:18:39 |
Sandra: The Giallo Ornamental is calmer, and would compliment the nutmeg maple cabinets very well. The Bordeaux is more bold and has a rather unpredicted array of rich colorts, the Ornamental is more consistent and a safer choice. |
|

the slabs for the typhoon seem to have a lot more rust color then I thought. I still like it but am afraid it's too much what do you think about the giallo ornamental with the nutmeg maple and smoke glaze? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-11-21 09:55:41 |
Sandra: It's a different direction from the stones I have suggested so far. This stone has more life, which is a good quality. The Bordeaux will tie-in the maple cabinets beautifully. |
|
Name: Sandra | Date: 2009-11-20 17:28:58 |
Sorry, I am so nervous about making this decision...why do you say "different direction"? Do you think it will be too "flashy"? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-11-20 09:43:27 |
Sandra: Ahh...that's going in a different direction. A beautiful, warm, and dramatic stone. Will add much life into the kitchen, go for it! |

What do you think about typhoon bordeaux? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-11-19 10:05:37 |
Sandra: To look warm and traditional, a light granite would be better. But for darker, look at stones from the Butterfly family if you like green tones. For dark browns that would look nice, there is tropical brown and and baltic brown. |

Great! We leaning towards Tan Brown because of its rich color. Do you know what level of granite is Tan Brown? Is it Level I or Level II? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-06-08 09:57:23 |
mica: Tan Brown will give you the most contrast, so it's going to look more punchy than the other two, which are ok as well. |

hi, i have a kitchen with maple cabinet in cinnamon color and stainless steel appliances. Im looking for a nice granite stones that would much it. What do you think with kashmir gold, tan brown or madura gold? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-05-20 13:23:03 |
Jean: I don't think the backsplash would help a lot but if it's worth anything, the stainless steel might distract the viewer from the countertop. Short of going very dark with the stone (think Platinum Bahia) I really don't see a clear solution here. I would suggest getting samples of all materials and testing it out. |
|
Name: Jean | Date: 2009-05-20 11:18:53 |
If we don't do the stainless steel backsplash, does that change the color of the granite? I really like the beige/gold family but I'm guess b/c we have cherry cabinets it is not too much of a contrast. The builder picked Tan Brown, Juparana Florencia and Arandis Chocolate but I am not a fan of the red/pink tones. |
|

Hi we have picked a soft white painted perimiter cabinet (with chocolate glazing) and the island is Cherry with a black glaze. Going for warm, traditional feel... what would be your granite recco if i want to do the same granite color on both the white and cherry? We are very warm in tone... *no peachy feel please... |

Syl: Judging by the restaurant appliances, I'm guessing you cook quite a lot. I would lean towards darker stones. They tend to be more dense than lighter ones and also won't show dirt as much. Take a look at a stone called Boreal if you like consistent patterns, and if you like more of a flowing pattern, see Pergaminho. |

I am redoing a kitchen with golden oak cabinets. I left the cabinets oak and was thinking about uba tuba on them. I painted the island and was considering new venetian gold or santa cecelia. What's your opinion on theses different color schemes? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2008-12-30 08:30:31 |
Judy: That one is debatable. From what I noticed, a lot of our customers are initially drawn to colors that are very close to the color of the cabinet. Once they see them next to each other though, they loose the interest and go for more contrast. I suggest you get a sample of the stone and put it against the cabinets. |

Donna: You may try variety of different colors. Remember about the contrast rule. Try not to blend too many similar colors because kitchen may look a little flat. If your kitchen has primarily yellow tones maybe you should go with brown or dark green to break it a little. Try Chocolate brown or Verde Sequoia, maybe Seaweed Green. |
