Chris: If you go with a black it will be a very traditional look. For this set-up tumbled noce travertine is an excellent option.

Thank you. What about something like Absolute Black or Black Galaxy? Those are our other considerations. Also, do you think the light tan or cream would be a good choice for a tile backsplash and wall color?

Chris: I don't think it's going to be too dark. Butterfly Green is not a very dark shade of green and you have good lighting. An alternative to consider is Green Rose, it's a little lighter and red highlights to compliment the flooring.

I am considering installing Sunset Maple cabinets with Green Butterfly countertops; however, I have Bellawood Peruvian Santos Mahogany hardwoods and am wondering if that is too much darkness for the room, even with a light tan or cream colored wall. The color of the floor has a lot of variations, anywhere from a pale gold to as dark as the background of this webpage and other reds, browns and oranges in between. Also, it gets a lot of natural light and is well lit from the ceiling. Any suggestions? (PS-We really like the Green butterfly with the color of the cabinets). Thanks!

I am installing maple cabinets with a harvest finish; appliances are white; I plan to use the oil-rubbed bronze hardware. I have not decided on wall color - maybe gold. Kitchen gets good light. What color granite would look best?

JH: You can go in either direction with white cabinets, but in the end more contrast is always better.

I have white cabinets, stainless appliances, medium light hardwood floors, Cheshire brown walls(a warm dark golden greenish brown). I can not decide between verde butterfly or Santa Cecilia(or something similar to Santa Cecilia). Would it be better to choose the lighter color or a dark color like verde butterfly. I have a large double to the floor window over dining area but no window over sink. Any suggestions welcomed!

Sara: If there is small gray veining/stress marks in the stone then it will not come out. That is the natural beauty/imperfections of natural stone. And I think Butterfly Green would be a wonderful choice!

My kitchen has white cabinet, white appliance and white wall (which I can paint any color I want later). I am thinking of using Uba Tuba or Butterfly green countertop. From the samples I have, Uba Tuba seems darker than Butterfly Green, and Butterfly has more of green tone. I am leaning more to Butterfly Green. My question is should I worry about the green tone in Butterfly green may clash with the warm tone of my very light colored floor? My floor has a dark beige (or maybe pinkish) color/tone. if you are familiar with Gallo Fiorito color granite, my floor is like warmest color (pink?Beige?) in that.

NJ: Although the appliances wouldn't really make a dramatic difference, stainless would definitely look more in line with the cabinetry. Other than that, Uba Tuba is a great fit.

My husband and I have cherry-stained maple cabinets, lightatural oak hardwood floors, and black appliances. Would ubatuba granite work here, or would it not match? We are considering switching to stainless appliances as well, but also aren't sure if that would make much of a difference.

Judy: If you can get cabinets made from the same wood as the house (pine I presume?), it would be ideal. If not, pick a wood type that has little to no red cast.

We are building a log home. All exterior walls are log. The kitchen is within a great room with Hardwood floors. Kitchen is one wall log and one sheetrock. We would like to go with peacock green granite. What color cabinets would go best.

We have just ordered Uba Tuba granite with the same 2 3/4" backsplash. Our cabinets are light cherry with white appliances/SSSink and a natural hardwood floor. Would you recommend a different backsplash for contrast?

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-12-02 12:13:51

Denise: If you take a closer look at the photo above, you'll see a small, light backsplash that separates the two planes of granite. That's a good way of not making the granite too dark and overpowering. It is also important to have very good under cabinet lighting.

I have a closed in kitchen but, it is rather large and has a lot of natural light. My cabinets are oak with a natural finish. I would like to put in uba tuba with full back splash throughout. Do you think the full backsplash would be too much?

Ashley: There's not really a one choice that would fit perfectly. Stainless will be ok. I would consider a black one too.

I have selected green peacock(this slab is really dark and rich)with almond cabinets. What color of sink is best?

Light maple cabinets, red italian tile floor, stainless appliances. Would Absolut Black granite go well for the countertop?

Cindy: This is actually Butterfly Antique. A bit warmer than your usual Butterfly. And about the sink - you are spot on with the cast iron black.

I am leaning toward the Butterfly Green. It is beautiful in this picture. My cabinets are very similar in color. I'm not crazy about a stainless sink though. Can you recommend a good color sink for this granite? I'm thinking a cast iron black or maybe copper. What do you think?

We are looking at Peacock Green with bisque appliances, light floor tiles and beige/light marble tiles on wall. Our kitchen on a very sunny day is bright, but quite dark otherwise. Will Peacock Green be too dark?

carol: Emerald Pearl is a rather dark stone. It also has a greenish tone to it. So unless you have tons of light, it might get really dark in there.

Will emerald pearl work well with dark kitchen - a couple shades lighter than chocolate?

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Donna: Not really, Peacock Green is a very durable, hard stone. you have to be careful though becasue if you hit it very hard with something really heavy ( big pot) the chipping may occur

Name: Donna

I have just ordered peacock with the waterfall edge and the fabricator cautioned me about potential chipping with this type of edge. Do you see a problem with this edge with peacock granite?

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2007-06-15 16:57:33

Yes. Being a darker color, it will contrast with all of the elements you mentioned. That's a good thing :)

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Yes, the color scheme in this stone is the same as in Uba Tuba, the difference is in the size of the grain. In the Butterfly the grain is more random and larger.
