JT: It's durable. Once the granite is installed and leveled in your kitchen, it will last a lifetime. |

Thank you for your earlier response.
Instead of Solarius, we found Desert Gold granite. The colors are lighter and seem to go well with oak cabinets and stainless appliances. The crystals in the slabs make a striking design but do they make the granite weaker or less durable than more solid looking pieces? The slabs we saw had 3" pieces missing on the edge as though the stone broke off. Would Desert Gold be a durable countertop?
Thanks for your help. |

JT: Yes, Solarius is a very rich choice and it has some darker veining for contrast. Another stone that would look great and offset the cabinets more is Crema Bordeaux. |

I thinking about updating our kitchen. Would keep medium oak cabinets and purchase new stainless appliances. Would a Solarius granite countertop work with these? |

I am looking for granite countertop for current cherry cabinets. Current floors are white with dark grey grout and some grey accent tiles. Would like something to afford some versatility in wall color choices, but tend towards tuscan colors (golds, browns w/ some red accents) I have pictures if that would help with your suggestions. |

Danielle: If the sample is brittle...then I would assume the slabs are the same, as the sample is cut straight out of a slab. |

Ever heard of SATURNIA. It is stunning! It sparkles a lot. We have one concern... the sample given to us is very brittle as it has lots of mica in it. Should we be worried about its durability, will it break easily once installed? It is exotic and very expensive. It will be our island and all counters of our kitchen. Would you have another granite just as beautiful? Help before it's too late! |

If I were to send you a picture of my kitchen/living area,(it is all one open space)could you give me your suggestions? It is an extremely large area and I am leaning towards Shiva Kashmire Pink. However, I am concerned that there will be problems with the seams. |

lynelle: Tiger Skin shouldn't be too dark. For something a little lighter take a look at New Venetian Gold. |

We like the more vain than the spotted granite. Love the Tiger Skin not sure if it is to dark with our cabinets. Giallo Vicenza is also very nice. |

maryetta: Do you want the countertops to contrast with the Oak cabinets or blend with them? Do you want movement or speckles? Many questions to consider. With your cabinets you can go either way, dark green tones will look nice, like Butterfly or Ubatuba. If you can afford it Blue Pearl is a bulletproof choice. For lighter granites check out Giallo Ornamental or the Juparana's. |

We have a large kichen with lots of light, med red oak flooring and white cabinets. There is a large 7x7 foot island that dominates the kitchen. My fabricator said to choose something with movement because the island is so large vs the speckaled look. The family room next to the kitchen has a red brick fire place and I have a large brick colored sectional with kahki painted walls. Your ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I was looking at sienna and creama bordeaux juparana areai or blacks or uba tuba? |

We are doing a new kitchen with maple cabinets with sandlewood glaze, our island will be cherry wood, our floors will be Brazialian cherry-5\\\\\\\" plank. We have a good amount of natural light. Our family room is adjacent and is done in warm colors, such as golds, reds and greens. What granite do you recommend for the counters. Should it be the same throughout or different on the island? |

D: SS is a more modern, industrial look that will never go out of style. The white cast iron however is very sleek and will tie-in with the appliances. Both choices would work just fine. And the dilemma between d-shape and rectangular -- i personally see more people take d-shape, its bigger, although the faucet has to go on the side. |
|
Name: D | Date: 2009-08-01 21:28:26 |
I have white appliances, medium cherry cabinets with beveled interior section on doors and shiny brass knobs. Would you suggest a white cast iron or ss sink? Isn't white cleaner looking than ss? If white, what color faucet? If ss, what color faucet?
The kitchen is L-shaped with an island. It opens into an eat-in dining area and then into a great room. The walls have a lot of angles. Is it best to get a rectangular sink or is a D-shape okay with its curved edges? Thanks so much! |

malaika: For Backsplash you could use some sort of glass tile. For floor, a very plain, pattern-less ceramic/porcelain tile. |

I chose light maple cabinets and emerald pearl granite countertop. Which product/color backsplash and floor tile will match to give it a nice contemporary look. |

Karen: It can be attributed two things or a combination of them. First, improper fabrication. Low quality polishing tools and "dry polishing" create a less glossy edge which tends to look pale compared to the top surface. Secondly, resin coated stones. Some stones are coated with a resin (at the quarry). When the edge is routed, the resin is not there and that creates the difference. There are products that can be applied to the edge to match the color with the top. In either situation, the problem CAN be corrected. |

My husband and I are shopping for granite for our kitchen countertops. I once noticed in a kitchen that the edge looked somewhat lighter than the countertop. Do some types of edging cause that or is that caused by a less desirable fabricator? |

bev: Due to the large countertop surface, I would recommend going with a light stone with a dramatic/intense pattern. Look up Colonial Gold and Bianco Romano. |

I have mod size kitchen with not alot of sun shining in so it is not too dark or very bright kitchen. I have light oak floors and alot of cherry wood cupboards , drawers, and stainless appliances. We also will be having an island at one end of the cupboards for seating 5 adults. What would be a good choice of granite? |

I need to replace some formica in my white/black kitchen--white cabinets, white shutters on a bay of windows, black galaxy granite island with dk red painted wood base, dk red paint on walls, and a honey walnut wood floor. What is the best choice for granite to complement all these existing features? |
