We just chose Giallo Ornamental to go with our white kitchen cabinets. We're looking for a good medium- to dark- value taupe-y brown wall color. (Flooring is creamy beige porcelain tile). Any paint suggestions to complement the browns in the granite? |

shirley: I'd go darker to offset the cabinets, perhaps Tan Brown. If that's too dark for you, then Tropical Brown or Baltic Brown are appropriate. |

Hi! We are getting white cabinets, gunstock hardwood floors and have black appliances. I am torn whether to get Giallo Ornamental or Giallo Veneziano granite counters. Walls are a Benjamin Moore tan with a touch of gray in it - room gets alot of natural light due to french sliders. Any advice would be welcome - thank you! |

I don't want to use dark stained or dark painted cabinets. I was thinking of taupe cabinets and a lighter, softer beige/taupe for painting the walls. Advice? Suggestions? Danielle: The Juparana's are warm and have movement, they would look beautiful with your cabinets. Santa Cecilia would create a light Tuscan look but do not have as much movement. |

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, Giallo Vicenza is not on the list we are allowed to pick. We are allowed to pick from the following list: baltic brown, giallo ornamental, paradiso clasico, kashmire white, peacock green St cecelia, tropical brown, verde butterfly. Also for $2k upgrade, we can pick among: VYARA, madura gold, dakota mahagony, juparana columnbo/fantastico/florence, Giallo veneziano, shivakashi, blue pearl. I am willing to pay for upgrade but not sure which one is worth to pay extra for. I try to find something with movement for my big island.
Is Santa Cecilia better than giallo ornamental? Is VYARA or juparana columnbo going to look great for these cabinet? Thanks! |

HELP!!! I have chosen a chocolate glaze over cherry for my cabinets --- which makes them basically "dark brown". My appliances are black. We have a really, really large open room, but I am now questioning whether this combo will be toooooo dark. I am thinking Giallo Napoli -- which looks like the Santa Cecilia (with the red garnets). Heather: Santa Cecilia tends to be yellowish. I am not sure if that's the look you're after. How about a nice light Shiva Kashmir White. It has not heavy burgundy veins and overall the stone is very creamy/beige. It would definitely light up the kitchen. |

Cindy: Well yes, you absolutely have to go light with the tops. In a galley kitchen with dark cabinets and just one window, there's really not much room to play around with colors. Santa Cecilia is a good choice here and so is Giallo Ornamental. I would think about colors like Juparana Golden Vyara or Bianco Romano to see if you like a more organic pattern. Those can really spice it up when you can't play with colors too much. |

Caroline: I don't think it would look washed out, especially against the dark brown wood. Very nice color scheme. |

Brooke : Well, visually it would be interesting. From a practical standpoint, it would be a bit harder to keep clean. |

Hi, we have white cabinets on one wall (15') and a large 8' x 4' island with espresso (dark brown) cabinets, our floor is a medium brown hardwood. I'm trying to decide between Santa Cecilia and Giallo Ornamental (love the latter since there is no gold or orange, but wondering if it might look washed out?). any recommendations? thank you! |

We are doing a major remodel of our house including our kitchen. I love this certain granite that is in a suede finish. I am nervous though because it isn't shiny like my other granite. It is a large island and an L shaped perimeter. How do you feel about suede finish in a kitchen? Will it look too unfinished? |

We have just installed cherry kitchen cabinets with mission stain. Hard wood floors are red oak - what color of granite would you suggest? |

Amanda: A lighter, warm color will offset the cabinetry nicely. |
|

Manny: One one hand it might be too dark. On the other, it will be neutral and won't clash with the speckly stone. If you can live with that, it's good. |

We are remodeling - black appliances, cayenne (reddish) stained cabinetry, and are planning a red oak laminate floor -- suggestions for countertop color? |

Looking to put in new countertops. Have maple cabinets, oak floors, and black appliances. Average light. Will a speckly black granite work well? Seems like it would but one person thought it might be too much black with the appliances. It is an eat in kitchen with a stone top table that is a light speckly color with just a touch of black. |

I have a small kitchen in a Moorish-style beach condo in Mexico with white walls, neutral floor tiles, and chocolate colored cabinetry with a lot of grain (the wood is called parota in Spanish.) I don't like speckly granite, would rather use more of a swirly type. Recommendations? |

We are remodeling our kitchen and have chosen white cabinets with an espresso creme glaze and giallo santa cecilia granite for the counters. All the appliances will be stainless steel. Any reccommendations on tile for the floor and paint color for the wall? It's a small square kitchen so we tried to avoid anything too dark... |

I have maple shaker cabinets in a cinnamon color for my new kitchen. The wood laminate floor has both lighter and corresponding colors. I originally chose Giallo Ornamental from a sample, but when I went to view the slab, it looked grey and washed out. Any suggestions on something which is light, but contains the cinnamon brown color? |

Can I do Giallo Ornamental with white cabinets? I have an island in the middle of my kitchen, wood floors but plan to stain them gunstock, white appliances. Large and open kitchen (granite = 90sq ft). Current kitchen walls are light green&hunter green blinds. If G.ornamental granite what color should I do the walls/backsplash? |

Karen: Firstly, try to do as much of the refinishing as possible, before the granite is in. That will reduce the chance of damaging the stone mechanically and/or chemically. As far as your color scheme goes, I think you might want to look at Blue Pearl. It has both silver and black to match the appliances, and it will contrast beautifully with the beige. |

Jane: Well for a kitchen floor, it's usually more convenient to go with tile. But as far as the color goes, I think a darker color would really provide a good base for both the cabinets and the stone. |

My cabinets are white. I am interested in the giallo ornamental (the one that has more brown and black flecks running thru it with no yellow). I plan to use a tile backsplash of natural colors that compliment the countertop. What color floor should I use? I can either go hardwood or tile. |

We are re-finishing our solid maple cabinets and we can stain them any way we want. Our kitchen is well-lit (both natural and other), but we still do not want to go too dark with anything. We really like the giallo ornamental. What tones should we aim for in the wood stain to best compliment this granite? Floors will probably be a light oak. |

You're not going to find much Rhonda. Giallo Ornamental is really one of the more "pale" speckled stones. Look at the slabs in person and see if that's the right thing for you. They do vary so you might just find one that has no gold at all. |

Have open kitchen/family rm, peninsula divider. natural oak flrs, maple shaker cabinets w/ nutmeg stain (med orangy/red brown) & 3x3 ebony island. Except for peninsula, there are no long ctr expanses. want comfortable pretty space & cabinet color looks more formal than expected + hard to find granite that goes well wutmeg & ebony . Any ideas? |

The cabinets along the perimeter of my kitchen will be cream with a light glaze and the island will be a relative dark brown(expresso or cappuccino). I'm looking for a speckled granite similar to giallo ornamental(with creams and browns) but with less gold. Can you recommend one? |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2007-05-15 16:07:55 |
That will make for one very open and airy kitchen. If that's what you're going for then Santa Cecilia will work. If you want to tighten the elements, choose something darker like Giallo Vincenza. It has more brown and rust in it too. |
