Michele: Tropical Brown as pictured here would look very nice. |

I have a light earth tone tiled floor and honey oak cabinets with antique black nobs. What color of granite would look best? |

My cabinets are in great condition but need to update counters. Cabinets are a light or blondish wood. Plan to buy stainless steel appliances. My eye keeps going to Tropical Brown, especially with the black in it. Walls are light yellow and kitchen opens into great room with French yellow/red motif. Is this a good choice? or another option? |

Tina: Alright. Well, Tropical Brown does fit into your scheme quite nicely. It should "pop" more against white cabinets than this photo shows. |

I am remodeling my kitchen. I am installing white cabinets, medium to dark hard wood floors, and a medium to dark center island. I think my look would be considered "traditional". My kitchen is part of a great room with family room and dining attached. The family room will be beige and blue tones. What color should I choose for my granite countertops (I do not want blue granite), and any ideas for backsplash? Thanks in advance! |

tina: Yes, depending on the rest of the kitchen. |

Linda: Whether Black Galaxy is outdated is irrelevant here. I would rule it out because it would make the kitchen dark and gloomy. The other two stones are good prospects but I would lean towards NVG as it is lighter and warmer than Tropical Brown. Also, its pattern is slightly larger which adds more character to the stone. |

We have a small kitchen, no windows. Are cabinets are off-white. We are considering tropical brown, new venetian gold. Do you think either of these would complement the cabinets without making the kitchen look small, cluttered? We were also considering black galaxy but were told it was a "dated" look. Any suggestions would be appreciated. P.S. I would like to say we like contemporary styles, but it appears we are drawn to classic styles as well. |

nancy fickert: Of course, the knotty pine has beautiful knots which match the color of this stone. But it still creates a nice, warm contrast. It would be a very earthy look. |

wendy: It's a safe choice. Maybe going a tad darker would be better. |

what about golden valley? is it much lighter than this brown |

simone: Yes, this is a good choice. Try Giallo Nathalia D Oro or Golden Fantasy for something similar but with veins. That specific brown will be tough to find in a veined pattern. |

My kitchen floors are similar to this pic but my cabinets are a little darker (provencial), walls are golden buff. Would you recommend this color? Is there a color close to this but w/ veins? |
