Tracy: Black on perimeter sounds great, I suggest Brazilian Black for an affordable alternative to Absolute Black. On the island, you could also consider New Venetian Gold, it's a tad warmer than the Cecilia. |

I have Bruce hardwood floors in Butterscotch finish; kitchen cabinets are oak - wheat color and was thinking of doing absolute black on the perimeter of kitchen and accenting kitchen island with Santa Cecilia. I have white appliances that I don\'t want to replace yet. Kitchen is open to breakfast nookew 4 season sunroom and family room with cathedral ceilings. We have warm colors in rooms of choc.brown leather, dark reds/oranges and creams along with walls that are muffin tan. I\'m looking for granite that would be warm with caramel colors, browns, blacks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

I'm still working on this granite choice. I agree that I need something besides China Beach and was now looking at Golden Typhoon. This slab isn't overloaded with grey. Do you think this ;would work? |

Dottie: More contrast would be better, maybe also consider Madura Gold? And for backsplash creamy subway tile or tumbled travertine. |

I have hickory cabinets that have height to them. The room has 4 windows & french doors so lots of light. light brown floor. I am interested in Golden Beach. Would there be enuf contrast? also, I would have a 4" splash but what color and type of covering between granite & cabinets? Thank you so much. |

Tresa: I would say something like New Venetian Gold, it will compliment the cream cabinets and it is still rather light to create that warm cottage look. |

Help!I have ordered seashell cream cabinets with a pewter glaze and an island in a portabello mushroom gray. I was kind of thinking Coastal Cottage, with a pale seaglass blue as an accent color. Floors will be oak hardwood. Any ideas on granite? I'm really struggling with the granite choice, as well as coordinating wall color. Any ideas? |

Rachel: Granite is natural stone that has the variance and imperfections that make it beautiful. You could be in our yard for weeks on end changing your decision, sometimes ya just have to go with it! I think your kitchen will look nice, don't worry! :-) |

Rachel: If are worried about there being too many swirls, take a look at "Colonial Gold" it is a little tamed and also light with less gold. |

I do have lots of natural sunlight coming into my kitchen. I was just worried that the golden beach and the gold coast floors would be too much gold and also too many swirls. |

Rachel: How is the lightning in your kitchen? If your afraid about the Golden Beach having too much contrast against the floor, go a shade or two darker with the paint color. For backsplash mosaic tile in earthtones you look nice. |

I have oak cabinets and Mohawk Montana Gold Coast porcelain floors. Yesterday I really like the Golden Beach granite, but I\'m not sure if the contrast between the floors and countertops would be too much. Also I\'m not sure of what color backsplash I should choose. Please help.
Thanks! |

diane: Bianco Romano is fabulous with white cabinets! Look at the kitchen in photo #126. Try Persian Brown and Persian Gold. |

Thanks for the information! Is Bianco Romano a good choice for white cabinets? I noticed pictures of it w/ white and did not know if it was as good of a contrast as golden beach.Any other brown/gold suggestions?
Thanks. |

Diane Fitzgerald: Lots of questions! :) Dark counters aren't necessarily more prone to fingerprints and smudges. It depends on how dark they are and how uniform the pattern is. Solid black - lots of cleaning. Spotty browns - not so much. Golden beach will contrast MORE against pure white. Therefore it will stand out more. It might get a little lost against cream cabinets. Are the colonials too light? Depends on what look you're going for. They match more of the country/cottage look. Are they more prone to staining? Not any more than golds. Emperador Dark in granite... Color wise it would be Platinum Bahia (or Chocolate Brown). Pattern wise... nothing jumps out I'm afraid. |

I have white cabinets I am keeping. I want a timeless look that will last for resale down the road. I have a south facing kitchen (lots of light) open to the family room with warm tones of sage, red, and golden taupe sectional. Are dark countertops hard to keep clean with fingerprints, etc? Would golden beach not look as good w/white as it would w/cream? I like colonial gold and colonial dream...are they too light and easy to stain? I also like emperador dark marble...anything like it in granite? I am afraid of the scratching and porousness of marble. Thanks! Diane |

I have yellow cabinets like a clive christiam look. The painted yellow and my floors are brown wood like a walnut color. What color granite would you suggest. I was looking at golden beach. As well my butlers pantry is brown wood cabinets. Would you use the same color granite? |
|

Shelley: Well, not all is lost. You can successfully pull off a light cabinet/light stone combo. The trick is to use accents. In your case, I would contemplate putting a darker (maybe mocha) glaze on the cabinets. It won't make the cabinets much darker but it will help separate them from the stone. You can also play with wall colors. Going a shade or two darker than the stone can create the contrast that you would otherwise lack because of the similarity to the cabinetry. And if all else fails, there is always electricity right? |

Hi. I have natural maple cabinets and medium brown-colored hardwood floors. The kitchen faces North; therefore, it gets minimal, natural light. Would a granite such as Golden Beach make the kitchen look too washed out (i.e. not enough contrast between the cabinets & counters)? I'm at a loss 'cause I'm not a big fan of dark granite with maple cabinets. Thank you. |

kim stefl: The reason is that Oak (unless heavily stained) is similar in tone to most of the common granites. So lets get down to the basics. You have two options: light or dark. If you go light, the room will be brighter and more spacious. Some stones to consider for this option would be: Ambrosia Gold, Bianco Romano, Zeus, Valley White, Colonial Gold. Now, if you go the dark stone path, kitchen will need serious lighting to keep the granite from looking black. Here are some colors to consider: Jacaranda Fantasy (if you like reds), Lotus, Brasso Green, and maybe Tan Brown Classic. Let me know if you like any of these. |

ok, i see what you are saying but is there something you can recommand that will compiment by cabinets? Just a reminder, I have oak cabinets, early american stain, maple hh natural with ss appliance, I really could use your help at least somewhere to start. It appears to me that many people struggle with oak and granite everything you see is with maple or cherry. thanks for any input you may give. |

kim Stefl: I think in this case, the stone has a pretty well defined pattern that will help separate it from the cabinets (even if the colors get close). It's a nice choice for a toned down look without getting too boring. |

Alice: If you would like to keep a country feel, go with golden colored stones. But darker than your wood. A good choice would be a Madura Gold, or the stone that's on the picture above. |

We have light oak cabinetry and light oak floors. The cabinetry style is french country. What granite would you suggest? Thanks You |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-01-13 16:05:59 |
Nancy: In your case a lot will depend on the amount of light you get in the kitchen. Generally I suggest light countertops. By going light, you would have a light "layer" on the floor, then the darker cabinets, light countertops and finally the dark upper cabinetry. This makes the design look somewhat like a layered "cake" of colors. What it also does, is make the countertops look light and "airy". If you don't like that and want to make more of an impact on the viewer, I suggest going dark. But beware – you'll need quite a lot of light (both natural and artificial) to pull it off. Dark countertops evoke feelings of richness and elegance. |

I love the golden beach granite and the tile backsplash and would like to use both in my kitchen. I was thinking of having maple cabinets with a light brown coloring (not natural). They are not as dark as the cabinets in the picture. Would this still look attractive or are darker cabinets more appropriate |

Ellen F: Golden beach will be a better match to the island, while Vincenza would look better on the light cabinets. Since the island is usually the main focal point of the kitchen, I'd go with golden beach. But that's just my humble opinion ;) |

Well, go with the stone you like. Not all companies have the same stone. You can't possibly go by one fabricator's word against others. I'm afraid Bordeaux Terracota will overwhelm the whole room. |
