Do you have any ideas of what color backsplash works with Bianco Romano? I have dark maple cabinets. |

Donna: Okay. Bianco Romano is a fine choice but perhaps a light stone with some brown to compliment the baltic on your island will work better, try Colonial Gold. |

Yes, all cabinets are cherry. The flooring is light with soft grays and beige tones |

Jackie: I'd go with Siena Bordeaux, it's rich and warm. Provides the most key contrast while not looking too creamy. |

Donna: So you're looking to keep the Baltic Brown on the island and have a different perimeter granite, correct? Are the perimeter cabinets also cherry? |

What would you suggest for a kitchen with traditional white cabinets with a pewter glaze, oil rubbed bronze cabinet hardware, stainless appliances, and cinnamon colored wood floors? We are trying to decide between White Spring, Sienna Bordeaux, and Bianco Romano. We don't want the room to look too "cold" but also don't want a dingy yellow/cream look. The kitchen is next to the family room which has a natural stone fire place with lots of brown, grey, rust and taupe shades. Thanks so much - Love your website! |

I am trying to find a grainte for my countertops to compliment my current island that has baltic brown. The cabinets and island are cherry. Do you think the Bianco Romano would compliment the island and do you have any other granite suggestions? |

debra: I only know information on the material used as countertop. With regards to honed granite, the only thing to note is that it does tend to show stains much easier than a polished granite surface and there are differing opinions on how to deal with this. You can protect and clean your honed granite countertops with sealers and treatments and these are usually sufficient to do the job. Still, I recommend that you clean up spills quickly, especially when oily substances have been spilt on the honed surface. |

Okay, that's reassuring. Thanks. May I ask, what are the dimensions of this island? Also, it looks so nice honed. Finally, what are the negatives, if any, of honed granite vice polished? Any staining, scratches, heat issues? |

it's hard to tell by looking online. what do you think about pairing up the bianco romano with dark walnut floors, white craftsman style cabinets with dark pull fixtures, and use eldorado brick, specifically canterbury viabrick as the backsplash and on any exposed walls in the kitchen? |

Cathy: Bianco Romano can vary between batches, but it has a white background with black and brown veining, and occasional burgundy speckling. It's a unique stone. |

meredith: The Walnut/Bianco would be very dramatic indeed. Cherry cabinets with Bianco or Panda White would also give off this dramatic effect with a great deal of contrast. |
|
Name: meredith | Date: 2009-07-23 15:01:17 |
Thanks for your input! What would you recommend, cabinet color wise, against the Panda White? Also, are you thinking the Bianco Romano/Walnut combo will have a very dramatic effect? Also, please let me know if there are any examples you have that may feature such a contrast or something similar? Thank you much! |

meredith: We unfortunately do not have pictures of finished Panda White countertops. Walnut cabinets would be alot of contrast but it could work. I would go with Bianco Romano over Panda White. |
|

I love the Bianco Romano, but my favorite is one I've seen called, Panda White. First, do you have any pictures of finished counters/kitchens using Panda White? Secondly, we have always preferred darker, walnut cabinets, what do you think of the contrast between the dark walnut shade and styles such as the Bianco Romano and Panda White? |

Michelle: This is perfectly normal. The stone is porous and it will absorb water and then it will evaporate. It will do this even though it's sealed because the sealer does not coat the surface and it won't make it impervious. |

I wrote to you awhile ago and did end up getting this granite and it is beautiful. I have noticed that if water stands on it the granite is turning dark but the darkness goes away when it dries. Is this the granite or the way it was sealed? |

Is this Bianci Romano Gold or just Bianci Romano? The island looks like the former. |

Carolyn: I could see both working, however the tropical brown seems to flow with the theme a bit better. Bianco Romano is more of a "Classical" stone and I'm not sure how well that would go with the red wall. From a color matching standpoint it would be fine. Not sure about the whole design though. |

I have white cabinets and want a deep red (Poinsettia) paint for the walls. We have a light/medium color hardwood floor. Do you think bianco romano would work well, or should I go with a darker color like tropical brown? |
|

Dark kitchen, no windows, vaulted ceilings, ample undercabinet lighting and cider stained oak. Bianco Romano was suggested to us as a good light color to use. Two walls are warm deep rose and third wall is pale cream. Do you think Bianco Romano or Crema Bordeaux would be better? |

I have tall white cabinets with white ceramic tile on floor. I am looking at doing countertops/island in a granite called Tropical Brown and then doing a darker paint to match. The room needs color. Too much white now with white walls. White appliances also. What do you think of this granite? |

Elizabeth: It is almost impossible to bring the shine back to honed countertops. It would be extremely time consuming, messy and the result may not be up to your expectations. I don't think that any granite fabricator would agree to do it. The only solution would be to change countertops. |

Question re: matte finish vs. shiny Granite. I am looking at buying a condo with matte finished granite black counter tops. My initial reaction was that it looked dusty from a distance.I prefer the SHINY surface vs. matte. Can it be refinished & become shiny? If so, what is the process & cost?
I think it is a cleaner look. |

|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2007-03-05 14:23:39 |
Asr, try looking up Crema Bordeaux. It has redish veins so it could tie in with the fireplace and also greys that go well with the appliances. It's a darker color but that would be a nice contrast with your white cabinets. The paint color could be changed to a pale yellow or sand color. |

My large kitchen with white cabinets, neutral tile floor and stainless steel appliances needs new countertops. Walls are currently yellow, but am open to changing. There is a large brick fireplace in the adjoining family room reddish/orangish/brownish/charcoal bricks. Any suggestions on granite? Light? Dark? Do I need to tie into the fireplace? |

Mindy - Matte finish is the same as Honed. It's just a low gloss polish. |

Colleen - If you haven't resealed your tops, now would be the time to do so. More on this in our Article Section. In regards to the glass rings, try using a razor blade. |

How often do granite countertops need to be professionally resurfaced? We have some in the kitchen and are thinking of getting more. The kitchen countertops suddenly show some glass rings that won't come off. Does this mean it is time for resurfacing? It's been about 7 yrs since installation. Thanks. |

The surface of a honed granite is "rougher" but as long as it sealed, it won't stain. |
|
Name: Constance Arnold | Date: 2006-12-31 14:38:47 |
What do you mean by "It catches the dirt becuse it is more porous." Is it more easily stained? Also what is the price point of this stone |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2006-11-13 08:56:52 |
Matte finish will catch more dirt on the surface because of the more porous finish. Other than that it's mostly a matter of looks. Bianco romano is currently not listed in the stone selection tool. |

First let me say that your site is fantastic....
I lOVE this stone...I am planning on having an off white kitchen and a medium cherry floor in the kitchen. I think this granite would be beautiful...I don't want anything too dark, but I love the "character" of this granite. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the matte vs shiny finish?
|
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2006-11-06 08:43:59 |
Anastasia, Bianco Romano is the name that the quarry gave to this stone and we follow it. Some fabricators might change the names to make their stones seem "unique". As far as your second question goes, yes, it is possible to put a different finish on a polished stone. |
|
Name: Anastasia | Date: 2006-11-04 09:06:45 |
The color, veining and crystal patterns on this granite look like Juperana Delicatus. Are you certain that it is Bianco Romano? Also, can a polished slab be successfully resurfaced to create a honed or matte finish? Thanks for your advice and for such an excellent website. |
|
All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2006-09-20 09:10:47 |
Oris, it is considered granite, although it does look like marble to some degree. But that's the beauty of it. Honed is a type of a surface finish. It's also called a matte finish. |
