metallic flecks in Calacatta?

Hello, I just had a beautiful Calacatta D'Oro bath vanity counter installed. There are some strange silver flecks (almost mercury-colored) on the surface that I assumed were leftover from install and could be wiped off. Well, they actuallt seem to be IN the stone. The ones on the edge are very noticable. I've never heard of this--any thoughts?
