Question supports for a raised eating bar

I am looking at having a raised eating bar at my kitchen island. In order to set a place and eat comfortably, how deep should the bar be? And how should it be supported, other than set on a knee wall? Thanks.

    Tracy C,

The breakfast bar usually extends about 12 inches in width for people to be able to comfortably sink and eat. However, you can go up to 14-16 inches if you'd like if you have tall family members that require a little more room! For the extra support required for such a breakfast bar, I recommend corbels or "L" support brackets. Take a look at the various ideas here. Hope this helps!
