what price group is the absolute black honed fall under?

  • Marble.com - Derek 02:07PM, Jan 21 2013

Hi there. I understand how difficult the decision is and I know it's very important for you to make the correct choice. The Absolute Black in a honed finish is a very sleek and elegant selection. It would create a contemporary feel for the space and contrast the cabinets nicely. I think you're on the right track, that's for sure. You should look at the full slabs of all of the choices you've mentioned before making a final decision. Also, acquire samples to bring home with you that you can put against the cabinets in the kitchen light to see how you enjoy the various combinations. We just received a new shipment of two beautiful dark stones that you could perhaps also consider: Black Impala and Titanium. Here is a Comparison Table of my suggestions for your easy reference: http://www.marble.com/material... Hope this helps!

I am looking for kitchen and island counter. I have white (soft white but white not ivory) recessed panels for cabinets with a built in hutch with Benjamin Moore eagle rock (taupey gray) paint for hutch only. Medium brown oak floors. I've considered azul Aran, bianco antico/Lennon and am now to a honed absolute black or similar for consideration. This has been the hardest decision thru kitchen process. Advice? Thoughts? Need to decide!

    Sounds good!

  • Msladiaz 01:13AM, Sep 21 2012

Hi Derek. Yes I have photos on my phone that I can upload. We have a granite and marble restoration company coming-out next week so I'll post the pics with their thoughts on the marks. Still trying to find out from our what type of sealer was used. Will post thatbinfo too. Thanks.

  • Marble.com - Derek 01:02PM, Sep 12 2012

Would it be possible for you to snap photos of these spots and upload them on here in a response? This will help in identifying the problem and offering a solution. Let me know!

  • Msladiaz 12:23AM, Sep 7 2012

We have absolute black in a leather finish that looks exactly like your photos above.  We noted 3 light gray spots (about the size of a nickle coin each) that look as though a liquid of some kind was spilled, left on the granite and etched it.  The granite is sealed.  Our contractor (we are redoing our kitchen) is telling us that these 3 obvious spots are just a part of the natural stone.  Any thoughts?   Also, the spots were NOT there upon first install.  Thank you.

  • Marble.com - Derek 08:44PM, Aug 9 2012

Lets start with staining. If you seal the countertops upon installation (or your installers should do this) and then reseal once a year or so, then the countertops will not stain. Especially a granite such as the premium Absolute Black should not stain, because it has a very low porosity level (if it's REAL Absolute Black). In regard to fingerprints, if you are really worried about them, then just do not use a honed surface but a regular polished finish, then you can have peace of mind that fingerprints or anything won't sow. This is because the honed finished AB does have a tendency to show "smudges" a little, here and there, but overall the problem is very exaggerated. Hope this helps!

  • Marble.com - Derek 06:45PM, Aug 8 2012

Yes, a standard 4 inch backsplash can usually be thinned from countertop thickness of 1 1/4" to 3/4".

  • Jcreem 03:43PM, Aug 4 2012

I am looking at doing the honed black on my kitchen coutertops but I have seen several questions on watermarks and staining is it hard to maintain?

  • Mas0907 05:51PM, Aug 2 2012

We would like to do our backsplash in 3/4 inch thickness.  Can this be done?

  • Marble.com - Derek 03:00PM, Jan 5 2012 Sure, I don't see any reason why not.
  • Dbartiromo 07:42PM, Jan 4 2012 I have a fireplace surround with existing marble and a slate base. Can honed black granite be placed on top?
  • All Granite and Marble 01:52PM, Jun 3 2011 We post three photos of each stone in our inventory to show the stone's details at varying distances. The top photo is taken very close up to show grain detail, the middle is at a medium distance to show the stone's basic pattern, and the bottom photo shows the entire slab.
  • Fjrinaldi 12:24AM, Jun 3 2011 I don't understand. Why are there three pictures?
  • Pmspas Trish 04:07PM, Jun 1 2011 ..we did our kitchen with black absolute honed granite and they put a inhancer on and it is uneven all over. ...what can we do about it...Trish
    • All Granite and Marble 04:43PM, Jun 1 2011 My suggestion would be to buy an enhancer from www.mrstone.com like the Dupont Enhancer Pro and apply it again to make sure you get an even coating across the whole piece.
  • Lesley 09:57AM, Feb 21 2011 We have polished....
    • All Granite and Marble 10:14AM, Feb 22 2011 Lesley: It's possible for you to get it honed. A honed Absolute Black is a little better on the maintenance.
  • Lesley 05:51PM, Feb 20 2011 We have Abolute Black granite countertops, which are already installed. We have lived with them for a couple of years, but, really don't like them. We have 2 small children, and they show every finger print and smudge. Is there a finsh we can get to the countertops to help with this problem?
    • All Granite and Marble 09:30AM, Feb 21 2011 Lesley: Do you have polished or honed Absolute Black?
  • Hedi 10:18AM, Oct 29 2010 We are looking for a door saddle that matches the gray tiles in the kitchen photos you show above under "Cabinet Tool". It's like a slate gray. Would this granite be close in color or is there another more similar match?
    • All Granite and Marble 11:00AM, Oct 29 2010 Hedi: The Absolute Black Honed is an excellent choice and closely matches your idea for the saddle.
  • helen 11:41PM, Oct 25 2010 A friend has what's called a brushed granite. It gives a rough finish which is more user friendly and I like the appearance. Does your company do this finish?
    • All Granite and Marble 09:23AM, Oct 26 2010 Helen: The honed finish is a similar finish but smoother to the tough, it is also matte and non-polished. The closest to brushed we have is Typhoon Black RW and Cosmic Black RW. The RW stands for River Washed and like the Brushed it is a rough finish.
  • Nadine 07:40PM, Oct 19 2010 How much would a piece 80x21 cost about ?? With the back and side splashes ???
    • All Granite and Marble 10:06AM, Oct 20 2010 Nadine: For pricing please contact our sales office.
  • Megan 08:19AM, Jan 17 2010 I don't like the speckles in the absolute granite. Is there a solid black stone out there?
    • All Granite and Marble 10:21AM, Jan 18 2010 Megan: This is absolute black honed. The regular absolute black pretty much has no speckles, it's solid.
  • Fran 10:19PM, Apr 19 2009 Can honed absolute black granite to resealed over water marks without the spots showing?
    • All Granite and Marble 09:12AM, Apr 20 2009 Fran: Absolute black is an extremely dense material. It doesn't require sealing. The water marks are most probably hard water deposits and would show just the same on a sealed stone surface.
  • Fran 10:18PM, Apr 19 2009 Can honed absolute black granite be polished on site?
    • All Granite and Marble 09:11AM, Apr 20 2009 Fran: Technically it is possible but to achieve a good finish water has to be used in the polishing process which obviously would be really messy if done on already installed stone.
  • Kit 03:34PM, Apr 10 2009 how does this compare to regular black granite polished better worse? or the same.? would this work with blue cabinets?
    • All Granite and Marble 03:45PM, Apr 10 2009 Kit: It's the same as polished. The picture does not really show the true color, but the stone is completely black when sealed. I think it will look fine with blue cabinets.
  • Lindsay 11:16PM, Jan 22 2009 I wrote the previous question as well. What is the difference between the absolute black anticado and honed? Is the anticado more durable?
    • All Granite and Marble 11:02AM, Jan 27 2009 Lindsay: Anticado stands for "antique". It could mean that the the slabs have an antique finish which is a bit different from honed. It has a very definite texture.
  • Lindsay 04:42PM, Jan 22 2009 We are planning on using honed absolute black for a master bath counter but have heard fingerprints and cleaning marks show considerably. Any other recommendations for a honed, gray look?
    • All Granite and Marble 10:50AM, Jan 27 2009 Lindsay: All honed surfaces will show marks and dirt. Absolute is actually one of the easier to clean.
  • Susan 07:11PM, Jan 12 2009 Yes - I want a grey stone, not black.
    • All Granite and Marble 03:59PM, Jan 13 2009 Susan: Try Impala Black and San Gabriel Black. They are dark grey in color.
  • Susan 09:37PM, Jan 6 2009 I am interested in the color, but probably not a honed finish, due to its maintenance requirements. Any suggestions?
    • All Granite and Marble 09:36AM, Jan 7 2009 Susan: So I understand that you want a gray but in a polished finish? Or do you want Absolute Black?
  • Becky 09:04AM, Feb 27 2008 I have a sample of Absolute Black Honed, and I don't like the way the fingerprints show on it. Is there anything you can do to minimize the fingerprints? A type of sealant?
    • All Granite and Marble 09:03AM, Feb 29 2008 Becky: Not much can be done. It's the nature of the stone (flat black and honed).
  • Elizabeth Ellsworth 07:32PM, Aug 15 2007 Hi. Can I get a quote for an island top that is 90" by 30" with a bend (i.e. L shaped). I can fax a drawing or email a photo of the design.
    • All Granite and Marble 09:47AM, Aug 17 2007 Elizabeth Ellsworth: Fax us the drawing with dimensions.
