I am beginning a kitchen remodel. I have a large 4' x 8' island that has Dakota Mahogany granite on it. The base of this island is to be painted a "scrubby/antiqued" black with matte finish (so it looks like a furniture piece) the base and wall cabinets are being painted a soft cream with chocolate glaze. I have a Rohl Shaws farm, going for a french country flair. I want to use a diff granite for those cream colored cabinets, but will coordinate (not match) that big island with Dakota Mahogany...thoughts?

Hello Stacy! Do you enjoy movement and veins in the granite or a more consistent, speckled pattern? Are there any colors so far that you have been attracted to as a choice?

I have white cabinets with hickory plank flooring.  What would be your suggestion for granite counter tops?

thank you for the recommendation, I'll check them out!

My recommendations for you are choices such as Armstrong line CeraRoma - Caramel Sand and Gothic Stone II - Mineral Beige. Hope this helps!

I have just had antique maple cabinets and Brazilian Gold granite countertops installed in my kitchen.   Now I am looking at vinyl flooring. Can you recommend a couple of color choices that would compliment the gold granite color yet not look too busy?

  • Margaret 08:25AM, Feb 24 2011 I have darker cherry cabinets with a golden undertone on some of the doors. We are changing the counters and floor. I would like to know what granite you would recommend for this??African Beige/ Astoria/ Gold Antique/ Imperial Yellow/ Giallo Ornamental/ Golden Beach. Or is there one specifically you would recommend. Thank you
    • All Granite and Marble 09:09AM, Feb 25 2011 Margaret: Out of the choices you're mentioned, I'm leaning towards Gold Antique. This granite will provide the needed contrast to offer the darker cherry wood but has warm golden veining at the same time.
  • Bruce 11:26PM, May 27 2010 Thinking about using two different granites to offset island in large kitchen. Warm wood kitchen cabinets, perhaps painting the island black. Would like island granite to be more distinctive and eye catching (but not too bold) than the primary counter tops, but also want them to complement each other. Suggestions of granite pairings? Many thanks!
    • All Granite and Marble 10:20AM, May 28 2010 Bruce: What color are the perimeter cabinets going to stay? You could go with a consistent patten, light granite like Tropical Brown or Tan Brown, and spice it up with Crema Bordeaux, Desert River, or Golden Beach EX for the island.
  • amy 10:34AM, May 31 2009 Is there a reason all the backpslashes seem to be 4 inch tile? I was thinking of doing 13 inch tile set on the diagonal with 3 inch squares of our brazilian gold set in. It seems like it would look sleeker and less busy. Your opinion? Thanks in advance for the awesome site and help
    • All Granite and Marble 10:01AM, Jun 1 2009 amy: That's a good question! My take on that: small tile blends easier than large one, especially once you introduce more than one color.
