Hello. We classify Austral Dream as a marble. It can be used in kitchen countertops, but it will be high maintenance and you have to be careful to wipe up any spills as soon as possible. I recommend to reseal at least once a year to help keep the stone stain resistant. Best of luck.

I'm confused. Is this a marble or stone/granite? I love the look of marble but not practical for the kitchen. I was thinking of using Austral Dream...our granite supplier state this is a close look for a marble...

Hello. Do you mean a marble tile backsplash? If so, absolutely! I recommend to have it tumbled and sealed.

What price category is austral dream?
Marble.com - Derek08:52PM, Jan 17 2012
We classify Austral Dream as marble and treat it as such. From your description, it seems the stone is showing classic marble traits and characteristics. There is not much to do to make marble stop etching, you can minimize the etching by getting the surface honed. Also, invest in a strong sealer as otherwise this stone will stain, here is one we recommend: http://www.mrstone.com/granite... Good luck and I hope this helps.

we bought austral dream as a granite. is it granite or marble. we have it for kitchen countertop. since then we have etching and are trying to determine how to remove

Austral Dream is a pretty unique marble-like appearance. I recommend to visit a stone yard and look at the full slabs in-person to find your closest match that is attractive to you. My recommendations are possibly Ambrosia White, and Astoria, but honestly it's hard to say.

Is there a granite that is close in appearance to austral dream marble?

Can this marble be used in a kitchen and do you recommend it for a kitchen?
All Granite and Marble09:45AM, Sep 13 2010
Tandi: Marble can be used in a kitchen but we do not recommend it as a kitchen countertop because this material is porous, soft and etches with use.
Tandi11:16AM, Sep 11 2010
Do you have a photo of Autstral Dream installed on your site? Do you have photos of tumbled marble backsplashes on your site?
All Granite and Marble09:49AM, Sep 13 2010
Tandi: Unfortunately we do not have pictures of an Austral Dream countertop. We have pictures of various tumbled stone backsplash implemented in a kitchen set-up in our Kitchens Portfolio page.
