Marble is a soft and porous natural stone that will stain, chip, and etch over time no matter how careful you are and how much you seal the stone. Especially since in a kitchen application, it's a work space where there are usually plenty of oils, acids, juices, wines, ect. Unless you don't cook at all and barely use the kitchen countertops therefore want to only have them for show, we try to sway clients from using marble in a kitchen for these reasons. There are stones that look like marble but are stronger than marble that we've had success with in kitchen installations. Take a look at Classic White and White Fantasy.

I want to replace my countertops with a white marble.  Which one is best? how can I get a price quote?

  • Marble.com - Derek 02:39PM, Jan 10 2012 If the island will not be a working area/space, and that's reserved for your perimeter counters (which should be granite) then I'd say you could use the Calacatta marble. I would use 2 inch thick marble and make sure it's a honed surface. In addition, I would reseal the stone every six months and always wipe up any spills immediately. If you do all these things, then it should hold up pretty well. You can read our article that pertains to this very topic of white marble being used in a kitchen:

  • Marble.com - Kinga 02:43PM, Jan 6 2012 Marble requires more maintenance than granite. It’s more porous and can scratch, etch and stain easily. However, many people do use marble in their kitchens. With small children, I would probably recommend a stone like the Classic White as it’s more durable. But again, if you properly maintain it, I don’t see a reason why you cannot use it!
  • Mbonagura 11:52AM, Jan 6 2012 This is so beautiful! I need a countertop for my kitchen island and I would love to use calacatta marble, but I am worried about durability. I have two small boys. Can I use this or would you recommend a different material?
  • Marble.com - Derek 03:27PM, Sep 1 2011 What kind of countertop are you considering? Where would it be located in the house?
  • Marble 11:28PM, Aug 28 2011 Would this be good for a countertop?
  • Marble.com - Derek 03:12PM, Jun 8 2011 This depends on the exact measurements that you require for the project. Please contact our sales office by email or phone for a free estimate.

  • Richiemartinez89 08:19PM, Jun 1 2011 Before i put a sealer on my new tile, should i frist use a marble polish with a #1steel grad to bring out the shine.
    • All Granite and Marble 03:27PM, Jun 2 2011 You should always seal the stone before using any other treatments.
  • cynthia 04:31PM, Mar 14 2010 Love this classic marble for my new white Italian glass kitchen, although everyone says it will stain. I am looking for an affordable marble - including installation. Any other highly veined marbles (maybe with a little brown though keeping overall blue-grey tones) that are less expensive. Soapstone the alternative.
    • All Granite and Marble 11:18AM, Mar 15 2010 cynthia: There is a marble-looking granite that is more durable than marble, take a look, it's called White Vermont. Another one is White Fantasy.
