Hello Lily. I think it’s wonderful that you’re considering a natural stone tabletop because they are quite popular right now and this material makes them unique & beautiful. When selecting natural stone tabletops, you should look at the different types, finishes, appearances, thicknesses and textures, which make up the beauty of natural stones. One great thing about natural stone is that no two stones are alike, making every single tabletop one of a kind. There are many forms of natural stone that consumers can choose from: granite, marble, soapstone, slate and more. One reason why natural stone is a favorite for a tabletop is that the finishes applied add on to the beauty and durability. Some popular natural stone finishes are polished, honed, flamed and tumbled. Granite and marble are the most appropriate natural stone choices for a tabletop application. Considered second to diamonds in hardness, granite is the most popular choice. Granite is chosen for durability and its rich composition of quartz crystals, mica, and feldspar trapped within. Chosen for its smoothness and vein-like textures, marble is added to a section of a whole countertop by those who like to bake. Both granite and marble give off different appearances compared to other natural stone products, which is why they are popular. Hope this helps!

I always think a marble or granite top dining table would be nice as I see the wood tables get scretched easily. but my husband said nobody does that. It is true? Can someone give me the pros and cons for having a table like that? thanks! Lily

  • Marble.com - Derek 04:31PM, Jul 5 2011 Come take a look at our Montclair Danby in-person at the Ridgefield Park, NJ yard! We have free samples of this stone you can take home and test them out yourself against various reactants such as tomato sauce and wine to see if it holds up to your kitchen use (seal the sample first). This is one of our stronger and least absorbent marbles, and has been successfully used in kitchens, but you must be careful as it's still higher maintenance compared to a strong granite countertop.
  • Marble.com - Kinga 04:07PM, Jul 5 2011 This stone is widely used in kitchens. It is available in our Ridgefield Park, NJ location.

  • Christine 10:01AM, Jan 30 2011 How does this compare in look to the classic white granite? I am in the process of designing a new kitchen and want white cabinets and marble countertops. Everyone keeps telling not to go with marble but you see it in every white kitchen in all the magazines and it looks so beautiful.
    • All Granite and Marble 12:45PM, Jan 31 2011 Christine: There is no rule that you cannot use white marble like Montclair Danby, just be aware that it will stain and etch no matter how much you care for it. If you like the natural aging look of marble, then you should use it.
  • clara 04:50AM, Jan 30 2010 hi im thinking of using this material for my kitchen top ? does it go well with modern kitchens ?
    • All Granite and Marble 01:57PM, Feb 1 2010 clara : Absolutely, although it requires much maintenance and attention. It's a marble which means it's very soft and porous.
