Marble.com - Derek 03:02PM, Jan 11 2012 The Classic White will not etch as much as marble, but it's not as durable as granite. The proper classification for the stone itself, is that it's a Quartzite. It's quite dense but will stain if not sealed often (every six months or so). It's good that you've tested out the sample yourself to see how the stone reacts, many clients purchase the stone without doing the proper research and sometimes they are disappointed. What I can say is that we install the Classic White in kitchens all the time and it's an extremely popular stone and the clients tell us that it's the closest white-marble looking stone to real granite in terms of durability and maintenance.
Marble.com - Kinga 02:00PM, Jan 10 2012 Samples are a great way to test the durability and stain resistance before you purchase your countertop. I’ve heard mixed opinions from customers on the durability. Some people have absolutely no problems with scratching and staining while others are just the opposite. Classic White requires more maintenance such as thorough, daily cleaning and re-sealing every several months. Sealing is a simple process, however. You can purchase a sealer from MrStone.com, spray- wait 10 to 15 minutes and wipe; that’s all! If you are after that wonderful marble look, Classic White is a great option. But if you need something more durable, darker stones are denser which means less maintenance. Hope this helps!
Leahrieder 01:25AM, Jan 10 2012 i"m trying to determine the durability of the classic white. I took a sample home from your showroom and cut on it with a knife. Your sales rep told me its as durable as granite and you can cut on it when I did the sample scratched badly!
Marble.com - Derek 06:14PM, Dec 8 2011 It's actually neither. The stone itself is classified as granite for identification purposes, as it has a similar durability to granite. The Classic White however is a natural quartzite. I recommend for you to acquire a sample and test it out yourself by placing yellow turmeric powder on the sample for some time then wiping it off to see if it stains. Remember that the stone must be sealed to be stain resistant.

Marble.com - Derek 06:47PM, Oct 18 2011 While Montclair Danby is marble, it's less porous than the average white marble. If you were to used it as a kitchen countertop, having a honed surface is a must. Also resealing the stone every six months to keep it stain resistant. There is no rule that says you cannot hope marble for a kitchen countertop, although it's a fact that it will age faster than granite and requires more maintenance. For pricing comparisons, you must contact the sales office. Hope this helps.

Someone by you suggested going with montclair danby- I like the look of the stone but its marble, not granite. Isn't that more porous and requires more maintenance and sealing to prevent chips and staining? How would you compare the Classic White to the Montclair Danby in durability and price?

We install this stone in kitchens without any issues, it comes polished from the quarry and most people keep it that way. I recommend to have a sample honed and compare it with polished to see the maintenance and upkeep.

We wanted to know if the line running from bottomright of the image all the way to topmiddle is a scuff mark from harvesting or is it part of the stone? Shane 10:17PM, Jan 30 2011 Love this color and the veins that are running thru it. Would this be suitable for a wine bar. Naturally it would stain with age and use. But how would it hold up? I have a shelf that runs 17 feet along a wall. So, 204 inches of Granite is a bunch. Could it be sectioned off in several pieces and fastened on an existing ledge? Or would it have to be reinforced due to the weight? The width can vary 13" -16" is plenty. Shoot me an email. I would like to discuss prices. I recommend to contact our Ridgefield Park, NJ sales office for pricing and to place an order. The Classic White is stronger than marble but it's not a true granite, kind of in the middle. It will require regular sealing about once a year so it stays stain resistant, but it still may stain with wine being used and all. We can fabricate the stone to your specifications, however you want it. We will come to template (measure) the bar for precise fabrication.
