  • Marble.com - Derek 06:09PM, Nov 18 2011 Soapstone is non-porous and chemically neutral. It's also heat resistant. However, soapstone is soft, and chipping is an issue. You do not need to seal the soapstone, and oiling is really optional, it only alters the look of the surface. When it's oiled, the soapstone is dark and evenly colored, when it's non-oiled and dries up, the soapstone has a rougher and natural look as well as feel. Hope this helps.
  • Jean Maloy 04:47PM, Nov 16 2011 Please advise pro's and cons of using soapstone on counter tops? Is there a way to seal so that oiling is not necessary?
  • Marble.com - Kinga 09:50PM, Oct 10 2011 When you visit a yard near you, each stone is labeled by its price category “Single Blue”, “Double Blue” and so on. Slate and Soapstone are the most expensive on the 5 standard price groups called “Single Gold”. Keep in mind some shipments may be more expensive than the “Single Gold” which would require a separate estimate.  For pricing and availability, please contact a sales office near you. http://www.marble.com/contact
  • Leigh 01:13PM, Oct 10 2011 I cannot find what stones are under the Single Blue Pricing. It is not clear in your estimate page. I am interested in the grey slate or the Brazilian Soap Stone.

    Thanks.
  • Natalie 12:43PM, Apr 10 2011 How would soapstone hold up for an outdoor kitchen contertop?
    • All Granite and Marble 09:26AM, Apr 11 2011 Natalie: Soapstone should perform well for an outdoor kitchen application. It's resistant to heat and staining and does not need to be sealed. It can however chip or scratch rather easily, but it's possible to be repaired. You do not have to seal soapstone, but some users apply oil to their soapstone to darken the counters and hide any unflattering spots on the stone.
  • parag v pitroda 05:38PM, Mar 1 2011 i m considering this material for some project in my house what does this internet ID stand for
    • All Granite and Marble 09:19AM, Mar 2 2011 Parag V Pitroda: This is called Brazilian Soapstone.
  • Sheila 06:38PM, Aug 30 2010 I'm actually considering this for a kitchen table top. I found a wrought iron table set, of course with no top or seats. I also have a tumbled marble back splash which appears to be the same color--or pretty darn close to it. How would this stand up as a table top?
    • All Granite and Marble 11:35AM, Sep 3 2010 Sheila: Soapstone is currently popular as countertop material. The stones smooth feel and stain resistance are attractive qualities. However it requires regular maintenance with applications of mineral oil and may crack over time.
  • Liza 11:51PM, Aug 24 2010 Considering soapstone for kitchen. Love the classic look. Have heard negative comments about durability and consistency over time. Please comment.
    • All Granite and Marble 09:27AM, Aug 25 2010 Liza: There is currently a revival for soapstone counters in a kitchen setting. It's a pretty good material as soapstone is low maintenance. It never needs to be sealed, is non-porous so it does not stain and lemons or acids will not etch the stone.
  • Marybeth Eckhardt 12:35PM, Jan 17 2010 Could you give me a price per square ft for the granite that I chose. Thanks
