I am trying to find a granite that is not too busy and will allow me to do a nice backsplash. I have picked out darker wood cabinets (chestnut finish) and would like something to go with it. I have a smaller kitchen with 2 windows. It is hard to find a granite that isn't super busy. What would go best? |

Cindy: Changing the island granite to something more lively is an excellent idea. I suggest Solarius or perhaps Crema Bordeaux. |

We purchased a home with absolute black granite kitchen counters, island and backsplash. The cabinets are white with a white tile floor with small black diamonds. Very stark. We are installing hardwood floors (walnut finish) to match the rest of the house. We will replace the backsplash (with an earthy tumbled marble i think) and are considering replacing just the island granite for something that won\'t smudge and will allow us to \"warm\" up the room and bring in the floor, wall and backsplash earth toned colors. Would you suggest changing just the island granite to accomplish this? If so, which granites might work well? Thank you. |

deborah: Maybe chocolate glazed cabinets to compliment the browns and darker granite would be better. |

What do you think of the contrast we are considering, white cabinets with absolute black counter, island area very dark brown almost black cabinets with santa ceilca counter, white trim and dark red walls? |

Pat, We are thinking of getting absolute black granite for our kitchen counter. Is your granite honed? If so, is that why the rings from cups don\'t come off? Thanks. |

hello world: That makes me question the stone's origin. We've heard reports of stones that were stained to look like Absolute Black. To test it you can moisten a cotton swab in acetone (or nail polish remover) and wipe the counters in an inconspicuous area. No color should transfer to the swab. Also, is it honed or polished? |

charlee: Yes, it can be honed, but to achieve an even finish, special machinery is required. |

I bought slabs of polished absolute black granite for my counter tops, but would prefer a honed finish. Is there some way to change it? |

John: Excellent contrast. Be prepared for a lot of cleaning. It shows dirt, fingerprints and smudges a lot. |

maureen: I think that black would feel out of place there. Also, I would lean towards marble. More of a classic and elegant feel to it in a bathroom. Something like Brecia Onyciata or Daine Real. |

What would you suggest for a bathroom (medium size with one window) with medium stained cherry vanity and white with very light grey and pink marbling floors? Granite or marble? Would a black work or should I go light? I am going for a spa feel. |

Joyce L: Give it a thorough wash with a soft brush and warm water with dish soap. Then use a dedicated granite cleaner such as the one we have in our store. store.marble.com |
