I wrote before about choosing
a backsplash for my white kitchen and am considering the subway tiles as planned.
Travertine did not fit in with my 60's home with more
retro/transitional decor. I
am trying to decide between
the white glossy or mat white
subway tiles with an insert of small brick pattern black glass tiles around the perimeter of the backsplash one subway tile distance from my Black Pearl countertop. Any input? |

Chastity: Also check out San Gabriel Black, another affordable option. |

I have a large white tiled kitchen with honey oak cabinets and butter yellow walls would Black Pearl be the most economical black to use? |

Betty: Sure subway tile would work, in a brick pattern. |

Thanks for the help. I wasn't sure if I could use travertine with the glossy granite. My floor tile is Daltile van Gogh which is white from a distance but has a HINT of
gray, pink (like a sunset).
Would the creamy white tones
still work. FAmily room is
painted creamy white and it is all open to the kitchen.
What size tile do you recommend? Would the subway
ones work? |

Betty: You should lean towards the idea of something to blend with the cream-camel tones of your floor and light shade of the rest of the kitchen -- tumbled travertine sounds like a great idea. |

I wrote several weeks ago for ideas on granite for my
white kitchen, light tile floors, stainless appliances.
You suggested going with darker granite for contrast as I was considering a white.
It is a beautiful Black Pearl. I now have to choose a backsplash. I am thinking
of white subway tile, some
type of tumbled travertine. This is all open to my family room, eclectic mix.
Any ideas? I am replacing 4"
white tile that had some black diamond accents that I
liked. Remodel was due to a
water leak under the foundation. |

Ramona: It's similar. Maybe a tad more black than BP. Leather finish is ok. Better than honed as far as cleaning goes. |

Have you ever heard of Cambrian Black antique. Is it simular to Black Pearl? Also is leatherd a good choice?? I have heard that honed is difficult to care for? |

Ramona: Not necessary. |

Does this or any black granite need to be sealed? |
