Laura: Excellent choice to brighten up the kitchen, another suggestion is Tahoe or Santa Cecilia. |

The house we've moved into has reddish oak hardwood flooring and Champagne Oak kitchen cabinets. The room is currently painted a subtle soft yellow. The appliances are bisque. This room does not have alot of natural light and tends to be dark. Would Giallo Ornamental be a good choice for a countertop? If not, I would love suggestions. |

Sheila : A lighter granite color in this set-up is appropriate. I'm leaning towards Colonial Cream, it will contrast the red birch beautifully and has some garnet speckling to compliment the reds in the cabinet. |

We have red birch cabinets, oak hardwood floors and white appliances. My husband likes ubatuba, but I feel there are too may different colors going on if I use that. Could you please offer some suggestions. The salesperson liked oriental rose, I was thinking giallo ornamentale or colonial cream. We are looking to sell in a few years, so I'm considering that also. Price is a factor too. Thanks so much,

Vanessa: No one is right or wrong in this situation, granite is a confusing and tricky business. It all boils down to which quarry mined the stone, and the difference between batches. The Giallo Ornamental that we have in stock has garnet flecks, and usually it does, but it's possible that the other fabricator has a stone of the same name that does not have these flecks. This is why it's important to actually see and approve the slab(s) will be fabricated for you. |

Hello again!
Please settle a difference of "expert" opinion. I went to 2 diff granite places & asked about Giallo Ornamental. Specifically, I asked if GO has the dark garnet flecks in it - the one place had GO which had dark red flecks, so the answer was yes. The other said no. Could this be because of the different lots they have? Looking at your website, the GO does not appear to have garnet in it, yet a finished kitchen I saw did have it. The reason I ask is that I think I have found GO with garnet in it (potentially at least from the picture). I am sure as with any slab, it changes over time and what one store thought didnt have garnet in it, might now, correct? As I mentioned before, the NVG samples seem to be too gold for my taste and I thought that the GO would be a good compromise. Can you shed some light on this "million dollar" question for me? I would like to be able to get a good night's sleep by next Tuesday!!! ;)
As always, much appreciated! |

Vanessa: Take a deep breath, choosing the right stone is a very stressful decision. I can assure you that Giallo Ornamental compliments dark cherry cabinets beautifully, as does NVG. If the NVG you're looking at is gold do not worry, gold in your set-up will make the kitchen warm and inviting. I'm leaning towards the NVG if the slabs of Ornamental are dark and brown. |

Help!!! I am so confused and frustrated right now. I am going to have dark cherry cabinets installed soon. Walls will be beige, floors are light maple hardwood, appliances are SS. I was set on New Venetian Gold but the lot # I liked is no longer available. It was much lighter/whiter than the current lots (current ones are very gold). So, I went to look at Giallo Ornamental. The slab they showed me was very BROWN. I want the neutral looking Giallo that has those nice garnet flecks/speckles in it. Does Giallo Ornamental come this way and will this go well with my dark red cherry cabinets? Or should I go back to NVG??? I have analysis paralysis right now (and a very bad headache :) ) Thank you! |

Ed: Ah yes...I see it. It's nice but in your situation the more contrast the better so i'm leaning towards the walnut. |
|

sorry. don't know how to cut and paste, but it's the Minwax website, click on stains, then click on 22 stain colors. Provincial is a little lighter than "dark walnut". I think you are right about the better contrast with "dark walnut". |

please take a look at Minwax stains and let me know what you think about using either Dark Walnut or Provincial stain on bathroom cabinets when I am using Giallo Ornamental granite and a light, neutral floor. Is dark walnut too dark or do I need that contrast with my granite and floor combination? most people are steering us to the dark walnut stain to be a definite contrast with the rest of the bathroom. thanks so much. |

The oak cabinets have a fruitwood stain and the oak flooring is fawn. The slab of New Venetian Gold we have looked at seems pretty dark in color. We definitely would like to brighten the room a bit. So you would recommend the Giallo Ornamental? Thank you very much for your assistance. |

All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2010-01-06 09:24:37 |
Richard Milby: Giallo Ornamental is more neutral while NVG is warmer. Depending on how exactly dark is your Oak, I would go with the Ornamental. |

We have oak cabinets and oak hardwood floors which are both medium to dark in color and are looking at Giallo Ornamental or New Venetian Gold. The lighting in the room is moderate and we have stainless appliances. We like the New Venetian Gold but were concerned it may be too dark. What would you suggest? |

We have chosed "dark walnut" stain with our Giallo Ornamental countertop and light porcelin tile floor (bathroom). About the stained cabinets: I thought it looks best to stain the cabinets doors and drawers, inside and outside. But, most people are telling me just polyurethan the inside of the drawers and cabinet shelves and only stain the outside of cabinets and drawers. What is your opinion of this? thanks. |

Ashley : Perhaps a Noce travertine floor tile; it's not as dark and not too busy. |
|

We are doing Giallo Ornamental counters with dark chestnut cabinets. We are thinking a lighter travertine for the backsplash with a border tha that has light, med and dark squares to tie it in or bronze orion squares periodically. Would it be a mistake to go with a dark floor? I found a dark tile i like. It is called praire dust? Each tile is a slightly different shade, but darker. I can't decide if it is better to go lighter. I don't want to go too light b/c i have kids and they spill things. Do you have any suggestion on what would tie in nicely and not look too busy? |

All Granite and Marble - Moderator | Date: 2009-12-18 13:51:53 |
Joan: If you stain your oak with a cherry stain its not gonna be easy. Oak is a very hard wood & does not take stain very well except for the pores & dark grain. You might wanna try gel stain or even a poly/stain over that to get the rich color of cherry that you are looking for. Oak grain and cherry grain are hardly sisters. Oak is tightly, contiguous grained while cherry is varigated grain with random wide fields of no grain. So it won't look like cherry unless you mask it entirely which would be a waste of warm oak beauty. I didn't know you had already purchased an oak vanity.

We have brought samples home (Minwax) of stain home from Home Depot, and none of them are the "dark cherry" or even close to it. Their colors called "red oak" & "red mahogany" are a brown color. Can you suggest some brands and colors of stain that would give me that "dark cherry", "spice" or "cranberry glaze" look? Perhaps it would have to be a stain from somewhere other than Home Depot. We are frustrated bringing home so many stains and staining the oak wood we are using for our bathroom cabinets. None are even close to a cherry or even a pretty brown to go with Giallo Ornamental. Can you help by giving some exact brands that would have a "dark cherry" stain? Many thanks. |

we are about to install giallo ornamental counter in our rather small bathroom. the floor is a fairly light porcelin tile. we are definitely doing stained cabinets, but our dilema is what color stain looks good with giallo ornamental? I put dark brown stain next to it, and it\\\\\\\'s too dark. then we tried walnut stain next to the granite, and it doesn\\\\\\\'t seem to look good either. should we be \\\\\\\"matching\\\\\\\" the dark brownn color in giallo ornamental or what color stain would you recommend? your pictures shows a dark cherry wood stain with giallo. is that your choice? many thanks. we are lost! |

We have a smaller kitchen (12'x12') with one small bay window. We are remodeling and making a half wall into the dining room. We think this will create more natural light. We really like the look of the Giallo Ornamental and feel it will continue to "lighten the room". We are debating between a cherry cabinet or a honey tan cabinet. We've seen many pictures of the cherry and the contrast looks nice. That said, we're looking for a more modern look. How would the Giallo Ornamental look with a modern style honey tan oak cabinets? I also feel like the honey tan gives us more options for modern tiles (glass subway tiles), Thoughts? |

we have red oak cabinets and red oak floors and having a tough time deciding on the color for granite countertops...would giallo ornamental get washed out? would we be better off with a darker option like uba tuba that has flecks of honey/gold that compliment the cabinets? Other colors we've considered are tropic brown, tan brown or even giallo leaf. the surrounding paint colors in the kitchen is big and has good amount of light; the paint color is a burgandy/rosy brown and adjacent great room is beige/olive (benjamin moore greenbrier beige). Thank you for your answer.I just had Gaiallo Ornamental installed in the kitchen. SHIRLEE: It will have some pitting, as most granites do. You shouldn't have any cracks. It's rather average when compared to the rest of the granites. You generally shouldn't feel anything but the largest pits. Nothing to worry about though. |

Redoing our kitchen. Have oak cabinets in a dark brown stain, with Giallo Ornamental granite counters and Marazzi Montagna Belluno tile. Do you think this will all look good together? |

I have a question on a new home. I am thinking of this granite with dark wood, glazed porcelain 20x20 in the color of Travertine Noce and Kelly Moore Wise Owl paint. S/S appliances. Backsplash same as floor tile. What do you think? |

I saw a Kashmir White a while back and I really liked it until I got my tile near it. Those who have seen my tile say it goes really well with my cabinets, but light granites don't seem to look good with the tile. They either look too yellow or too gray. |

Michelle: Try Kashmir White for starters and let me know how you like it. |

I am remodeling my kitchen and am having a terrible time choosing a countertop. My cabinets are a cherry colored maple and some are an off-white. My floor is a porcelain tile called Amalfi beige. I generally don't like too much yellow gold or orange, and want to keep it light because the kitchen is small. Any suggestions? |

Paint consultant suggested Benj Moore HC-83 or HC-80 to go on kitchen walls with Giallo ornamental. Seems quite dark. Any other paint suggestions. Cabinets will be white down (BM cc-50). Floor Golden West Oak |

Pat: Giallo Ornamental should be primarily cream/yellow with brown streaks. Very little gray is present. |

Does the Giallo Ornamental have more of gray and black tones with white or yellow and brown tones with white? Many of the slab samples I've seen with more white in them have grayish black and yellow in it..is this typical? |

Cindy: You are right. If the stone has veins you cannot just cut it without any sense of direction. He just wanted to save as much material as possible while compromising the finished look. You can do this when the stone is very consistent. Because it will look identical no matter from which part of the slab you will cut. |
|

Important question re: installation of giallo ornamental with very prominent horizontal black veining... shouldn't all pieced be installed with the veining going the same direction? My installer said it doesn't matter which direction the granite is placed. Wrong... you can tell immediately... We chose the specific slab from which to cut the pieces, but I never expected that the horizontal look of the granite would be upside down. Is this an industry standard? Just cut pieces from a slab like a cookie cutter? I think they just wanted to make cuts that were economical, regardless of the look? Your opinion? |

Kizzie: These are stained cherry cabinets. Very popular choice. as far as flooring goes, any light tile will do the job. |

I love the darker cabinet with the giallo ornamental shown in the pics. What is the cabinet choice as well as the flooring. I'm in the middle of a new construction and was undecided on the color of granite and cabinet choice until I came across these pics. I would appreciate a response indicating what type cabinets are shown in the pic. Thanks |

stacie: I think the stone is ok. You have plenty of contrast there. There should be no problem with the floor either. As far as the "blah" as you put it wall color, I don't think that's such a bad choice either. |

was looking into this granit top for 1/2 bath. The cabinet is vanilla bean glaze. Would this work or should we go with a darker color. The floors are cherry? also What color walls would compliment this? Would a light brown (oatmeal) be too blah? |

We are considering either giallo ornamental or laborador angola black/gold for our kitchen. We will have white cabinets to the ceiling, some bead board, creamy (with a bit of yellow) walls, hard wood floors - we are looking for a warmer feel to the kitchen. The looks are so different - any thoughts? |

The sample piece I have seems to have more of a cream background, so it looks like there is some contrast. You don't think that would be true on a whole slab? And one more question, is New Venetian Gold the same thing? |
