We are redoing our Kitchen using painted maple butterscotch glaze cabinets. Floor is a med-dark hand scraped maple. My wife thinks NVG would work, I was leaning towards ubatuba. She also wants an apron front sink. Copper, white, biscute, almond? What's your opinion? Thanks so much.

How noticeable is it if the veining is not running in the same direction at the seam for venetian gold?

We're redoing the kitchen to get it ready to sell and have new stainless steel appliances (black on side of fridge). The floor is beigish with a little peach in it (to match our current pickled oak cabinets). We're planning to paint the cabinets white and maybe do a glaze on top. Would NVG or Santa Cecilia look better, or is there a different color that would look better? And what about a backsplash--thinking about travertine tile or similar. Thanks!

Building a new house. I'm getting NVG countertops for sure. My cabinets are Maple for sure. Which color would you suggest for the cabinets. I have either chestnut (a brown without any red) or a cordovan (with red resembling cherry. Both will have van dyke glaze. Backsplash is cream subway, floor is ivory/cream porcelin, and walls are a green color. I'm torn because we are also using the Monet in our Masterbath and would like to go with the same wood color throughout. OK, thanks! Is the GV a little darker though? I was also looking at a sample from a slab of St. Cecilia which to me actually looks like it pops more with the cabinet color and the tiles compared to this particular slab of NVG. We have brick paver floors-darker colors with a touches of light color in it and stainless steel cabinets. we want to paint the cabinets a version of white/off white b/c the wood is ugly (grain is bad-looks cheap).what about new venetian gold-the lighter one with this since the floors are dark? we found a vendor with great a price on this one.

Christine: Tan Brown is a very nice stone but I don't think it would suit your kitchen best. The oak cabinets are in golden or yellow color, and tan brown is mostly black, and reddish brown. I might be mistaken about the cabinets but make sure you compare the two next to each other.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2009-04-04 07:45:05

Christine: Dark color... maybe Black Galaxy. It has beautiful gold-copper specs which would complement the oak and the overall blackness would be a great contrast with the appliances and the cabinets. Uba tuba is also a good choice since it's very dark but the subtle green would create a nice natural look. Also some Uba tubas have nice gold veining which would go perfectly with oak. Go with a lighter backsplash to break up the darkness, yellowish beige colors.

Missy: Since you're working with white, you have a really large selection to choose from. I wouldn't get too worried about matching the rug. Such elements are not permanent and if you ever want to change them, you want the stone to be more flexible color wise. The stones you mentioned are all very good choices though, so I think you're on the right track. Also, if I may add, try looking at some more organic patterns (flowing veins). From your description it sounds like it's a rather open room and could accommodate a more intricate pattern.

Karrie: Darkening the floor is a good idea. You're "grounding" the kitchen. The cabinets are white and so they could care less about what you put on them. To me the important part will be somehow tying everything together without adding too much color to this already contrasty kitchen. That said, NVG is a good choice. michelle: For maximum contrast I'd go with a dark brown (matching to the glaze). A more subtle approach would be a darker beige with a hint of yellow.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-09-19 16:29:06

Lue: Firstly, I would advise the Venetian Gold as it's much warmer than the dark ones. With a slate floor it will brighten the room up. Secondly, the streaking is more of a improper cleaning issue rather than the sealer. The sealer bonds with the stone and solidifies so there is no way for it to streak.

All Granite and Marble - Moderator

Date: 2008-09-19 10:37:39

David: Not a lot of contrast there. If the kitchen doesn't get much light, this would be good. If you have more room and light, I'd suggest a darker color.

We are building a new home and the color cabinets I am interested in is called Cinnamon. I plan on having wood floors in the kitchen and stainless steel appliances. Would New Venetian Gold look good with the color of the cabinets? If not, can you suggest something else. Thanks.

Chris: What you're looking at is a good option. Also try Tiger Skin if you're not afraid of patterns ;)

I've got light maple cabnets and gunstock hardwood floors in my kitchen, do you have any suggestions for granite color? I'd like something with black and light colors...but not something that would clash. Thanks
