tim g: It is stronger than the Rainforest. It's a rare stone.

thanks so much for your help. the other stone we're considering for our kitchen is verde fantastico, which is classified as a granite, but i understand it is also a serpentinite. is the verde fantastico significantly harder than the rainforest green? i know it's more expensive!

tim g: You're right, but it's classified as marble. It's stronger than regular marble, If you want to use it for a kitchen countertop I dont think you will have any problems. Just make sure to always wipe off any spills and reseal every six months (to be safe).

isn't rain forest green a serpentinite, rather than a true marble? meaning it is less porous and doesn't react to acid because it is not calcium carbonate based but rather more magnesium based? i've done some inteernet research and the info seems all over the map. thanks for your help.

joy bruenn: The current inventory might vary to some degree as stone is so versatile between slabs.

rfgreen: We do not recommend the use of marble in kitchens. Since it is a very porous stone it is prone to staining, and it's just very impractical in this environment. Our customers have to sign a release when they choose a marble counter top in a kitchen.

I know Rainforest Green is a marble, but I've heard both bad and good things about using it for a kitchen. What's your opinion?
