Edna: Most laminate flooring consists of a moisture resistant layer under a layer of high density fiberboard). It is finished with an extremely hard, clear coating made from special resin-coated cellulose to protect the laminate flooring. Water staining should not be an issue.

all appliances will be black, the sink will also be the granite composite with a lifeshine faucet.

Cabinets are a dark fruitwood stain, my biggest concern is the durability of laminate wood flooring and the durability. Scratching from chairs and droplets of water staining them. My husband is convinced laminate wood is the way to go and I am doubting it. We have had carpet for 20 years which I really liked even with 3 kids that grew up with it. I am concerned with water that someone may forget to clean up ! Thanks

Edna: What color are the cabinets? Perhaps oak hardwood floors would tie everything together nicely.

What color and type of flooring for my kitchen if using santa cecelia dark? Backsplash is a light subway with glass and travertine 1inch accent in light tones and a dark amber to pull the red tone of the granite?

Michelle: That's a good idea. But I think it will look fine all black.

yes, they are all black. I may end up putting panels that match the cabinets on the fridge if it's too much black

Michelle: Well, are all your appliances black or just the fridge?

You had a concern about a big black fridge in your reponse to Ramona, I have black appliances. Would Santa Cecilia look bad with that? (and dark chery cabinets). I was also looking at ventian gold or giallo napoli

Jessica: Well it is tough to please both of you, as you took to the polar opposites of the granite realm. NVG is not a bad idea at all. I would also suggest to check out some Giallo stones (Vicenza, Veneziano, Firenza, Napoleone...) and maybe Kashmir Gold. The latter can be found with minimal movement and looks very speckly.

We are having a very difficult time deciding granite choices. I am a dark with vein person and my husband is a light, pattern person. We've also looked at new venetian gold, which we both like. I've seen this granite in person but it was on lighter cabinets, and liked it. Then I've looked at pictures and not liked it at all. We loved the giallo vicenza online, but worried it was peachy/orange in person. We also picked out tropical brown, but thought it had too much black and was too patterned. PLEASE HELP!

The kitchen is complete from when we started in January (see earlier posts). The final step was tan/bone color subway tiles over a border with tan and dark brown alternating diamond shapes. It brings in all the colors of the Santa Cecilia Dark granite and the deep Red Mahogany Minwax stain we used over our 1988 Oak deep grained cabinets. The cabinets are almost flawless you can see its not perfect but it adds to the charm. This dark stain hid those deep grains nicely and saved us thousands! Just thought I would include this because we were just like most people reading this and to see it all finished we just thought we would give you one combo that worked for us. Best of luck thanks for the great website.

So will this look good with the stainless refridg (black handles), stainless stove (with glass black top) and yes I do have a stainless dishwasher that has a stainless front with the very top were the buttons are black). Med. oak cabinets and gunstock oak floors?? What do you think??

Ramona: Ohh ok. I thought we were talking like a Black fridge and stainless steel dishwasher..

I have a stainless refrig. with black handles and sides and the stove top is black glass top with Stainless front. What are your concerns with the black/stainless appliances?

Ramona: Granites of the same kind/name can vary quite a lot depending on where they come from. What I would suggest is to take a sample home and inspect it, then before the stone is cut, do a close inspection of the slabs.

Ramona: It's going to give you excellent contrast against the cabinets and floor. My only concern are the black appliances. Which ones are black?

One more question. The granite I saw came from China. I have read that granite from china might be inferior and have more pits/problems,is this true? How can I be sure this is a good quality granite and suitable for the kitchen? Also the Santa Cecila (portofino gold) is much warmer in color than the picture you have here so I am not sure it is the same stone.

I just saw this at a granite place, they said it was also called portofino gold. I have med oak cabinets and gunstock oak floors, black and stainless appliances. What do you think of this for my countertops?

kay: It's a nice low contrast option for you. Should look very casual.

How would Santa Cecilia look with white cabinets and dark hardwood floors? I have a Tuscany look in the adjoining breakfast area - like casual not fancy - don\'t want too dark. Thanks!

MarkG: More light can never hurt, especially with granite. It comes alive with light (it won't stand up and walk away but the colors get more saturated). Well done!

Great advice thanks! Great website too! We went with a Red Mahogany stain and added recess lighting in the main kitchen and over the new breakfast bar area. We tore out the fluorescent lighting and popcorn ceiling and we couldn't be happier! Thanks for your advice.

MarkG: I would use something that would get the wood close to a gunstock color while darkening a bit as well. Otherwise it should go well. I'm not sure which tile you're talking about, floor or backsplash?

Date: 2009-01-31 15:26:00

What stain should I use on Oak Cabinets if i get Santa Cecilia Dark tops? We have a buttercream yellow wall color and white appliances. Will this all go together? Also, what color tile would flow as well? Lot\'s of questions sorry, would appreciate any help.

LynnK: Santa Cecilia Light is the one that's lighter and more yellow.

Which Santa Cecilia light do they call it ? is it the one that has the gray in it St. Cecilia dark. or the yellow one St. Cecilia.
